    • An apparatus (1) for monitoring the state of a protective device (2) of a machine (4) in particular is a safety switch for monitoring the closed state of a protective door or the like. The apparatus (1) has a switch housing (22) with a switch head (24) and an actuator (8). In the closed state of the protective device (2), the actuator interacts with the switch head (24) and, as a result, the closed state of the protective device (2) can be signaled. The apparatus (1) has a tumbler device (20) with a tumbler element (30) mounted movably in the apparatus (1) and by which the closed state of the protective device (2) can be locked releasably. The tumbler device (20) has at least one permanent magnet (34). By the magnetic force, the tumbler element (30) can be fixed in a first position when the power supply to the apparatus (1) is switched off, in which first position the tumbler device (20) locks the closed state of the protective device (2), and/or can be fixed in a second position, in which the tumbler device (20) does not lock the closed state of the protective device (2).

    • A lockable switch mechanism for a machine guard includes a switch plunger and locking and switch mechanisms. The plunger moves, upon insertion of an actuator, between two positions to actuate the switch mechanism and is locked by the locking mechanism, which has one locking member biased against a surface of the plunger and another locking member that is displaceable between locked and released positions. The plunger has an annular shoulder that displaces the first locking member when the plunger is moved. The second locking member prevents displacement of the first locking member by the plunger to thereby prevent movement of the plunger. Thus removal of the actuator is prevented unless the second locking member has been moved to the unlocked position when the machine is in a safe condition.

In a position in which it blocks the switch disc (7) the latching element (12a, 12b) engages with an associated recess (13a, 13b) in the housing (2, 3). The inventive switch is further characterized in that the latching device comprises a rotatable unlatching element (14a, 14b) disposed beside the switch disc (7), which can be rotated relative to the switch disc (7) when the actuator (5) is inserted. When the unlatching element (14a, 14b) is rotated, the latching element (12a, 12B) is slid back parallel to the axis (8) into the switch disc (7) against the effect of the first energy accumulator (11), thereby placing it in the deblocking position.
