摘要： A method of manufacturing a high-pressure discharge lamp, comprising the steps of: inserting a mount into an interior of a glass tube having an outer diameter smaller than an inner diameter of an end part of a sealed container; radially constricting the glass tube at a first position located away from a metallic foil toward a tip of an electrode; sealing the mount by a region of the glass tube that ranges from the first position to at least the other end of the metallic foil; protruding the electrode out of the glass tube located away from the first position toward the tip of the electrode to form a glass-tube air-tightly sealed mount; inserting the sealed mount into the end part of the sealed container; and radially constricting the end part of the sealed container to sealing the glass tube of the sealed mount by the end part.

摘要： A discharge lamp includes a cathode in a luminous tube, and an emitter, other than thorium, is added to the cathode. The emitter is prevented from being excessively vaporized from the cathode and depleted soon. Smooth lighting is enabled even at start-up. A main body part (31) of the cathode (3) is made from a metallic material having a high melting point and containing no thorium. A front end (32) is made from a metallic material having a high melting point and containing an emitter (excepting thorium). Inside a sealed space (33) formed in the main body part (31) and/or the front end part (32) is received a sintered compact (34) containing an emitter (excepting thorium) that is higher in concentration than the emitter contained in the front end part (32).

The calculation processing sub-unit 11 controls a PWM control sub-unit 12 and a voltage step-down circuit 5 to maintain an absolute value of the current at a first current value during at least part of the A-period, and at a second current value, greater than the first current value, during the B-period.

The wick is configured to emit divergent light beams while the bulb is lit up. The main reflective cover is connected to the lamp tube and includes a main reflective surface facing the wick. The main reflective surface is configured to convert the divergent light beams into projection beams. The secondary reflective cover is melt bonded to the lamp tube and includes a secondary reflective surface facing both of the wick and the main reflective surface. The secondary reflective surface is configured to reflect a portion of the divergent light beams, cannot be directly emitted onto the main reflective surface, onto the main reflective surface while the bulb is lit up.
