    • A filtering apparatus includes a passband of a first-level unit which is formed by at least three coaxial filters covers a passband of a second-level unit which is formed by at least three dielectric filters, and a bandwidth of the first-level unit is twice the bandwidth of the second-level unit, so that when the coaxial filters are coupled to the dielectric filters, insertion loss of the coaxial filters is reduced, thereby reducing overall insertion loss of the filtering apparatus. By making a transmission zero of the first-level unit be located at a second harmonic frequency point of the second-level unit, the filtering apparatus can have high suppression on a second harmonic, thereby obtaining relatively desirable far-end suppression performance.

    • An improved microwave cavity filter used in cellular communication systems such as base stations is disclosed. The cavity filter has a conductive housing forming a cavity therein and a hollow conductive resonator configured in the cavity with a folded hat shaped upper portion. A tuning screw extends from the top cover of the housing into the top folded hat portion of the hollow resonator to fine tune the resonator. The resonator also may preferably include two different diameter sections providing a first high impedance section with smaller diameter and a second lower impedance section with a larger diameter configured at an upper end of the resonator. This configuration provides a significantly smaller cavity height for a given power handling capability. The resonator is preferably of constant thickness allowing low cost stamping or other forming techniques to be used in forming the resonator.

    • A method is proposed for designing compact stripline and air-cavity based (SACB) RF filters, duplexers, and multiplexers. The target frequency band is 600 MHz˜3 GHz. The proposed devices feature both compact size (with 50% size reduction compared to traditional resonator air cavity design) and high power handling capability as well as low insertion-loss. In the SACB filter, striplines and cavities are used to emulate LC resonator (quasi-LC resonator). The combination of striplines and cavities forms a structure that exhibit the performance of an electric resonator circuit of inductor and capacitor (LC). The outside signal will be connected to the striplines, and the ground will be connected to the metal shield which forms the cavity. By controlling the dimensions of the stripline width and length as well as the size of the cavity, the desired filter response is achieved.
