摘要： A high power fiber laser system includes a booster winch is configured as a fiber amplifier extending over free space, pump source and laser head including a reflective element which receives pump light and reflects toward the output end of the booster in a counter signal-propagating direction. The booster is configured with concentric and coextending frustoconically shaped (“MM”) core and cladding around the core. The core includes a mode transition region expanding between small diameter SM input and large diameter MM output core ends and configured so that amplification of high order modes is substantially suppressed as a single mode (“SM”) signal light propagates from the input to output core ends. The laser head receives output ends of respective pump light delivery fibers and signal fiber, respectively. The pump source is structured with a plurality of independent sub pumps arranged around the booster. The laser head supports a segmented mirror configured to reflect pump lights from respective pump sub-sources to the output end of the booster in a counter propagating direction, wherein the booster is configured to emit the amplified signal light reaching up to MW power levels substantially in the SM.

摘要： Apparatus and method for amplifying laser signals using segments of fibers of differing core diameters and/or differing cladding diameters to suppress amplified spontaneous emission and non-linear effects such as four-wave mixing (FWM), self-phase modulation, and stimulated Brillouin and/or Raman scattering (SBS/SRS). In some embodiments, different core sizes have different sideband spacings (spacing between the desired signal and wavelength-shifted lobes). Changing core sizes and providing phase mismatches prevent buildup of non-linear effects. Some embodiments further include a bandpass filter to remove signal other than the desired signal wavelength and/or a time gate to remove signal at times other than during the desired signal pulse. Some embodiments include photonic-crystal cores for the signal and/or photonic-crystal inner cladding for the pump and/or use reflector connector segments. Some embodiments include an inner glass cladding to confine the signal in the core and an outer glass cladding to confine pump light in the inner cladding.

摘要： High power parallel fiber arrays for the amplification of high peak power pulses are described. Fiber arrays based on individual fiber amplifiers as well as fiber arrays based on multi-core fibers can be implemented. The optical phase between the individual fiber amplifier elements of the fiber array is measured and controlled using a variety of phase detection and compensation techniques. High power fiber array amplifiers can be used for EUV and X-ray generation as well as pumping of parametric amplifiers.

摘要： A laser system according to an embodiment of the present invention includes an oscillation unit to generate a laser output, a connection unit to connect the oscillation unit with an optical fiber loop, an amplifying unit to amplify the laser output on the optical fiber loop, a conversion unit disposed on the optical fiber loop to convert pulsed wave laser output into continuous wave laser output, and an output unit disposed between the connection unit and the conversion unit to split a part of the laser output toward the conversion unit. The system for generating a high output pulsed wave laser and converting the pulsed wave laser into a continuous wave laser may be implemented in a simple structure and small size with high stability and high reproducibility. In addition, a high output laser may be obtained. Also, since conversion from the pulsed wave into the continuous wave is easy, both of the high output pulsed wave and the high output continuous wave may be obtained as necessary.

摘要： A laser utilizes a cavity design which allows the stable generation of high peak power pulses from mode-locked multi-mode fiber lasers, greatly extending the peak power limits of conventional mode-locked single-mode fiber lasers. Mode-locking may be induced by insertion of a saturable absorber into the cavity and by inserting one or more mode-filters to ensure the oscillation of the fundamental mode in the multi-mode fiber. The probability of damage of the absorber may be minimized by the insertion of an additional semiconductor optical power limiter into the cavity.
