    • A high-pressure connector for an electrical power cable segment having a central stranded conductor encased in a polymeric insulation jacket with an interstitial void volume in the region of the conductor. The connector confines a fluid within the interstitial void volume at a residual pressure above atmospheric, but below the elastic limit of the insulation jacket. A housing interior chamber receives the conductor in fluid communication with the interstitial void volume. Some embodiments have the chamber sized to receive and overlap a portion of the insulation jacket with a housing end portion swaged thereto. A seal seals the insulation jacket with respect to the housing and a retaining member secures the cable segment to the housing to prevent pushback of the insulation jacket at the residual pressure.

    • A method and apparatus for connecting flow-through cables. Flow-through cables have a conduit or a plurality of conduits longitudinally placed inside the cable to allow fluid passage. Special terminators, joints, and methods for installing these devices are described herein. One method for connecting two flow-through cables involves: inserting a tubing material into the conduit of one flow-through cable, placing a crimp connector over the cable's conductive core and crimping the crimp connector. The tubing material is then placed into the conduit of the second flow-through cable, the cables are aligned, and then the crimp connector is fastened to the conductive core of the second flow-through cable. The termination assembly includes a rigid tubing material, a hollowed plug assembly that includes a single or a plurality of rigid tubes, a tubing connector connected to the single or plurality of rigid tubes, and a conductive terminator that has a cavity adapted to anchor a cable's conductive core and allow a flexible tubing material to attach to the single or plurality of rigid tubes while being routed through the conductive terminator.

    • A quick connect sealing and clamping apparatus and method having a pair of oppositely positioned sleeves (12) interconnected by a flexible coupling (14). The pair of oppositely positioned sleeves (12) includes a locking device (16) for locking the oppositely positioned sleeves (12) together when in position. The oppositely positioned sleeves (12) in conjunction with flexible coupling (14), form a passageway (18) into which one free end (20) of device (22) is placed from one side of oppositely positioned sleeve (12). The other free end (24) of device (22), or free end (24) of another device (26), is placed into passageway (18) in the other oppositely positioned sleeve (12). Oppositely positioned sleeves (12) are then rotated in opposite directions so as to wind, twist, and torque flexible coupling (14) around device (22) (device 26) thereby sealing them against contaminants and joining them to quick connect sealing and clamping device (10). Additionally, the twisting draws oppositely positioned sleeves (12) together where they are held in place by teeth (28) or locking device(s) (16). In a preferred embodiment, sealed chamber (30) is provided with extension (38) which is hollow so as to allow aerosol can (40) to be attached at spray nozzle (42). When spray nozzle (42) is depressed, lubricant from aerosol can (40) is introduced through extension (38) into sealed chamber (30). In the situation where device (22) is a sheathed cable (36), barrel end (32) and exposed cable (34) are open within the sealed chamber (30) to receive the lubricant under pressure. As a result, lubricant is forced between cable (34) and sheathed cable (36) and sheathed cable (36) is thereby lubricated.

    • An automatic by-pass valving system for an electrical cable system wherein insulating fluid at a pressure above atmospheric pressure is supplied to an electrical power cable, such as a pipe-type or self-contained cable, having a fluid flow channel and having at least one hydraulic stop interrupting the flow of fluid between the channels of adjacent portions of the cable which are at different elevations. The valving system comprises a check valve, which allows fluid flow only in a first direction, from the lower elevation portion to the higher elevation portion, and a flow-limiting valve, which allows fluid flow only in a second direction, from the higher elevation portion to the lower elevation portion, at a reduced rate. Preferably, a relief valve is also provided to allow fluid flow in the second direction at a higher rate if the fluid pressure difference in the second direction is exceeded by a predetermined amount. The valving system limits the loss of the insulating fluid from the cable when the lower elevation portion is ruptured, protecting the environment, while permitting a limited flow from the point of rupture to protect the cable from contamination.

The device and method for this fluid stop splice for a submersible cable where the desired conductors such as wires, fibers or tubes of the takeoff are suitably spliced to the necessary or desired wires, fibers or tubes of the parent trunk cable is such that a cofferdam is placed around the spliced area of the cables, fibers or tubes and a glutinous material is pumped, poured, or injected into the cofferdam where the glutinous material cures around the splice of the cables, fibers and or tubes and further forms a fluid tight seal around the cables, fibers and tubes to further stop fluid flow into the parent truck when the primary cable and takeoff are submerged into the fluid and further prevents electrical leakage, or the distribution communication leakage of the cables, fibers or tubes.
