    • A method and a device for fault detection in an n-winding, three-phase power transformer. For each of the windings (Wi) the three phase currents (IL1—Wi; IL2—Wi; IL3—Wi) are measured. For each of the windings (Wi) deciding if a zero sequence current (I0—Wi) reduction is to be performed depending on at least one user setting (kWi) and if so, deducting the zero sequence current (I0—Wi) from each of the three phase currents (IL1—Wi; IL2—Wi; IL3—Wi). For each of the windings (Wi) generating normalized currents by performing a magnitude compensation and a phase angle shift compensation on the results of the previous step. For each of the three phases (Lx) comparing the normalized current of a single winding with the normalized currents of all other windings. For each phase (Lx) generating a fault signal, if a difference between the single winding (W1) and all other windings (W2, . . . , Wn) exceeds a predefined level.

    • A negative sequence differential element may detect a fault in an electrical power system by computing a differential between negative sequence values derived from a first phase-current measurement and a second phase-current measurement. A transformer may be disposed between the first phase-current and second phase-current measurement location. The first phase-current measurement and the second phase-current measurement may be normalized and a negative sequence current may be calculated therefrom. The negative sequence currents may be used to calculate an operating quantity, which may be an absolute value of the sum of the first and second negative sequence currents, and a restraint quantity comprising a maximum of the first and second negative sequence currents. The restraint quantity may be scaled by a slope factor. A fault may be detected if the operating quantity exceeds the scaled restraint quantity and a pickup current threshold.

    • Provided is an apparatus and method for providing differential protection for a phase angle regulating transformer having a load side and a source side in a three-phase power system. The method includes calculating a first positive sequence component and a first negative sequence component associated with incoming secondary currents detected on the source side, calculating a second positive sequence component and a second negative sequence component associated with outgoing secondary currents detected on the load side, applying a phase angle shift to the second positive sequence component and the second negative sequence component to form a compensated positive sequence component and a compensated negative sequence component, respectively, and determining an operate current value and a restraint current value for each of a positive and negative sequence differential element of the differential protection based on the compensated positive sequence component and the compensated negative sequence component.

    • A network protector relay for a circuit breaker includes a microcontroller routine which provides a positive sequence network voltage from polyphase network voltages on a network bus. Another microcontroller routine provides a positive sequence phasing voltage from the polyphase network voltages on the network bus and polyphase feeder voltages on a feeder bus. A recloser circuit automatically recloses the circuit breaker connected between the polyphase feeder bus and the polyphase network bus in response to a function of a plurality of setpoints and the positive sequence phasing voltage which indicates a first flow of power from the polyphase feeder bus to the polyphase network bus. A receiver receives a remote close command. Another routine temporarily changes at least one of the setpoints in response to the received close command, in order to conditionally close the circuit breaker for a second flow of power from the polyphase feeder bus to the polyphase network bus, with the second flow of power being less than the first flow of power.
