    • When a vehicle is “off” many electrically powered devices will continue to draw power from the battery, which will eventually deplete the battery. Instead of leaving such devices on, when the engine is shut off, a message is transmitted from a vehicle's telematics communications device to one or more of: the operator, a telematics service provider or elsewhere, and which notifies the recipient of the power-down condition. The recipient of the message can thereafter respond with a directive that tells the telematics communications device which devices to leave powered on, turn off or schedule to be shut off. Absent such a message, the system powers down devices according to a default power down ordering.

    • In one example, a method includes receiving, by a power switching device and via a connector of the power switching device, a signal that causes the power switching device to transition from a first operating mode to a second operating mode in which the power switching device consumes less current than the first operating mode. In this example, the method also includes, responsive to determining, while the power switching device is in the second operating mode, an occurrence of one or more events, outputting, by the power switching device and via the same connector of the power switching device, a signal that indicates the occurrence of the one or more events.

    • A charger in one aspect of the present invention includes: a connecting portion, two protection devices, a charging device, a control device, and a voltage detection device. A first protection device is configured such that its power consumption in a charging inhibited state is lower than that in a charging permitted state. A second protection device is configured such that its power consumption in the permitted state is lower than that in the inhibited state. The control device is configured to respectively set, when the battery is not connected to the connecting portion, the first protection device to the inhibited state and the second protection device to the permitted state, and thereafter switch, when the voltage value of the charging path detected by the voltage detection device is equal to or greater than a predetermined specified voltage value, the second protection device to the inhibited state.

    • An electrical device having a transport safety system that prevents unwanted discharge of the battery during transport. The electrical device has a battery connected to the electrical device, a charging device configured to be connected to the electrical device or to the battery, and an electrical discharge protection circuit associated with the battery or the electrical device to prevent discharge of the battery during transport. The electrical discharge protection circuit is adapted to be activated when connected to the charging device by engaging a button actuation on the electrical device, and is adapted to be deactivated by charging the battery. The discharge protection circuit is configured so that a wanted or unwanted actuation of the button when the discharge protection circuit is activated does not lead to activation of electrical components of the electrical device.
