    • Linearizers can improve the linearity of power amplifiers by canceling or reducing amplitude of non-linearity components, (e.g., IM3, IM5, IM7, IM9, etc.) generated by the power amplifier. The linearizers can obtain samples of signals output by the power amplifier and process the samples to produce a compensation signal that is applied onto or into a transmission path leading to the power amplifier's input. The compensation signal is generated such that when amplified by the power amplifier, the amplified compensation signal cancels or reduces at least a portion of the non-linearity components produced by the power amplifier. A controller can improve the correction of the non-linearity components by executing one or more calibration algorithms and/or one or more tuning algorithms and adjusting settings of the linearizer based on the results of the algorithm(s).

    • An apparatus for monitoring a power amplifier coupled to a transmission medium includes a detector circuit, coupled to the transmission medium, that generates first and second detector signals corresponding to respective fundamental and harmonic components of a power amplifier output signal produced by the power amplifier. A comparing circuit is coupled to the detector circuit and compares the first and second detector signals. The comparing circuit, responsive to a comparison of the first and second detector signals, may generate a signal that indicates linearity of the power amplifier. In some embodiments, the detector circuit may generate the second detector signal without requiring phase information for the harmonic component. In other embodiments, a control circuit controls linearity of the power amplifier responsive to comparison of the first and second detector signals, for example, by controlling power amplifier bias and/or input signal level based on the comparison. Related methods are also discussed.

    • A signal processing system including at least one control loop having a forward path and a feedback path. A signal processor produces a representation of the desired downstream output amplitude and phase as a pair of substantially orthogonal signal components. A feedback-path splitter splits a feedback signal into a plurality of substantially orthogonal feedback signal components which are combined with the corresponding substantially orthogonal signal components to create error signals. A plurality of modulators control the amplitude, frequency, and/or phase of the pair of substantially orthogonal signal components on the basis of control signals which are derived from the error signals. The outputs of the plurality of modulating means are then combined into an output signal. A phase-shift controller in the forward path of the control loop derives the control signals from the error signals on the basis of monitored signal values from at least one predetermined point in the signal processing system.
