摘要： This automatic gain control circuit is provided with a variable gain amplifier for amplifying a received signal, has a small circuit size, and makes it possible to reduce the effect of superimposed external noise input within the frequency bandwidth of a received signal. The automatic gain control circuit supplies the output of the variable gain amplifier to an analog/digital converter and comprises: a frequency selection circuit that is connected to the output of the analog/digital converter and that selects a signal within the frequency bandwidth of a received signal, said signal having a narrower bandwidth than the frequency bandwidth; and a control signal generation circuit that generates a control signal for the variable gain amplifier on the basis of the strength of the signal selected by the frequency selection circuit.

摘要： A packet-based radio receiver (10) comprises an automatic gain control system (17) and a signal-level detector (18, 19, 20) for monitoring an analogue signal derived from radio signals received by the radio receiver. The signal-level detector (18, 19, 20) comprises a binary memory cell (22, 24) and a monitoring system. The monitoring system comprises a comparator (21, 23) arranged to receive a reference voltage at a first input and the analogue signal at a second input. The monitoring system is arranged to (i) continuously monitor the voltage of the analogue signal, (ii) detect when the monitored signal exceeds the reference voltage, and (iii) store a predetermined binary value in the memory cell (22, 24) in response to such a detection. The automatic gain control system (17) is arranged to control the gain of a variable-gain component (12, 13, 14) of the radio receiver in dependence on the contents of the binary memory cell (22, 24).

摘要： A signal processor for a radio frequency (RF) receiver includes a signal processing path having first and second programmable gain amplifiers and first and second offset correction circuits. The first offset correction circuit receives a first digital offset correction word and corrects a first offset of the first programmable gain amplifier by adding a first value corresponding to the first digital offset correction word to an input of the first programmable gain amplifier. The second offset correction circuit receives a second digital offset correction word and corrects a second offset of the second programmable gain amplifier by adding a first value corresponding to the second digital offset correction word to an input of the second programmable gain amplifier. A controller measures offsets of the first and second programmable gain amplifiers during a calibration, and provides the first and second offset correction words in response to the offsets.

摘要： A method is provided for operating a radio frequency (RF) receiver including a transimpedance amplifier, a capacitor selectively connected in parallel with the transimpedance amplifier, a channel selection filter unit connected to an output terminal of the transimpedance amplifier, and a variable gain amplification unit selectively connected in parallel with the channel selection filter unit. The method includes measuring signal-to-noise ratio from an output of the RF receiver, and comparing the measured signal-to-noise ratio with a reference signal-to-noise ratio. When the measured signal-to-noise ratio is greater than the reference signal-to-noise ratio, the capacitor is electrically disconnected from being connected in parallel with the transimpedance amplifier and a variation in the measured signal-to-noise ratio is measured. When the measured variation is in tolerance, the channel selection filter is bypassed to select the variable gain amplification unit.
