    • A system and method for generating a reduced transition time ramp waveform signal are disclosed. Two offset, synchronized ramp waveform signals are generated. Each ramp waveform signal has a repeating sequence including a linear development segment, an upper transition segment, a return segment, and a lower transition segment. The ramp waveform signals are offset synchronized such that the linear development segment of each ramp waveform signal begins before the linear development segment of the other ramp waveform signal ends. Each ramp waveform signal is sampled during its linear development segment to generate a reduced transition time ramp waveform signal.

    • In a horizontal deflection output circuit adapted for correction of horizontal linearity in a television receiver or the like, and which comprises a switching transistor, a damper diode, a horizontal deflecting coil and an S correcting capacitor connected in series to the horizontal deflecting coil; the terminal voltage of the S correcting capacitor is modulated by a sawtooth signal produced by a linear distortion correcting circuit synchronously with a horizontal periodic signal. The sawtooth signal produced by the switching transistor and fed to the horizontal deflecting coil is applied to the S correcting capacitor which feeds an S correcting current to the horizontal deflecting coil, so as to correct the image distortion caused particularly by the resistance component of the horizontal deflecting coil.

    • An inverter coupled to a source of DC input voltage is operated at the horizontal deflection frequency for developing a horizontal rate square-wave supply voltage. A power transformer having a first winding excited by the square-wave supply voltage develops a horizontal rate alternating polarity output voltage across a linearity correction winding. A phase control circuit phases the alternating polarity output voltage relative to the phasing of the horizontal scanning current so as to apply a greater magnitude voltage across the horizontal deflection winding during the last half of the trace interval of each deflection cycle than during the first half of the trace interval. In this manner, linearity correction of the horizontal scanning current is obtained. The linearity correction winding is electrically disconnected from the circuit during the horizontal retrace interval in order to control the amount of power introduced into the deflection circuit via the linearity correction winding.
