摘要： An apparatus and method for enhancing the infrastructure of a network such as the Internet is disclosed. A packet interceptor/processor apparatus is coupled with the network so as to be able to intercept and process packets flowing over the network. Further, the apparatus provides external connectivity to other devices that wish to intercept packets as well. The apparatus applies one or more rules to the intercepted packets which execute one or more functions on a dynamically specified portion of the packet and take one or more actions with the packets. The apparatus is capable of analyzing any portion of the packet including the header and payload. Actions include releasing the packet unmodified, deleting the packet, modifying the packet, logging/storing information about the packet or forwarding the packet to an external device for subsequent processing. Further, the rules may be dynamically modified by the external devices.

The adaptor card includes a SIM receiving terminal configured to receive a SIM card. The SIM receiving terminal includes a SIM interface that contacts the plurality of pins located on the SIM card in order to communicate with an IC chip located on the SIM card. The adaptor card further includes a signal conversion module that converts signals between a SIM protocol for signals transmitted to, or received from, the SIM card, and an SD protocol for signals transmitted to, or received from, the electronics device. The signal conversion module is also configured to map the signals received at the terminals of the adaptor card to the corresponding terminals of the SIM card.

The variable-length packet multiplexing apparatus generates a variable-length packet. The transmission slotting apparatus stores the variable-length packet in slots forming transmission main signals. The transmission slotting apparatus includes a capacity calculator, an extractor, a remainder calculator, a selector, and a slot information multiplexer. The capacity calculator calculates a data capacity of the transmission main signals for one frame. The extractor extracts a byte number of the variable-length packet. The remainder calculator calculates a remaining capacity of the transmission main signals. The selector stores a predetermined data sequence in a region left in the slots, and outputs the slots storing the data sequence. The slot information multiplexer multiplexes slot information and the slots output by the selector.

In order to share the setting data in binary format with another device, the electronic device converts the setting data in binary format to setting data in text format and transmits (uploads) a set of text data containing the converted setting data in text format to a network communication service provided on a server through a communication network. The network communication service may be a conventional communication service of a web site capable of handling text data. Another electronic device can access the network communication service through communication network, receive (download) the set of text data, and then reversely convert the setting data in text format contained the received set of text data to the original setting data in binary format.
