    • A 2-pixel averaging unit (101) halves an input image in the subscanning direction, and a multi-level error diffusion unit (102) performs multi-level error diffusion processing. A 2-pixel reconstruction unit (103) replaces each pixel with two pixels adjacent in the subscanning direction. A density value exchange unit (104) exchanges pixel values adjacent in the subscanning direction in each of 2×2 pixel blocks arranged in a checkered pattern in the image after replacement.     • A print apparatus includes an edge detector using attribute information, a screen processor which binarizes each pixel included in image data with a screen processing, a pulse width converter which converts each pixel included in the image data to pulse width data in accordance with an input gradation value, and an output unit which outputs pulse width data from either of the screen processor or the pulse width converter for each pixel. The output unit outputs the pulse width data from the pulse width converter for an edge pixel and outputs the pulse width data from the screen processor for a non-edge pixel.

    • Setting of growing directions of dots in a dither matrix is facilitated. During defining of the growing directions of the dots corresponding to cells in the dither matrix, a target cell in the dither matrix is defined. When the growing directions of the dots in cells located within a range of one cell from the target cell are not set, the target cell is set as a reference point. When the growing direction of the dot in the cell located at the immediate left or the immediate right of the target cell is set, the growing direction of the dot in the target cell is set based on setting states of the growing directions of the dots in the cells located at the immediate left and the immediate right of the target cell and the reference point.
