    • A method, system and reference target for estimating spectral data on a selected one of three spectral information types is disclosed. Spectral information types comprise illumination of a scene, spectral sensitivity of an imager imaging the scene and reflectance of a surface in the scene. The method comprises obtaining a ranking order for plural sensor responses produced by the imager, each sensor responses being produced from a reference target in the scene, obtaining, from an alternate source, data on the other two spectral information types, determining a set of constraints, the set including, for each sequential pair combination of sensor responses when taken in said ranking order, a constraint determined in dependence on the ranking and on the other two spectral information types for the respective sensor responses and, in dependence on the ranking order and on the set of constraints, determining said spectral data that optimally satisfies said constraints.

    • A printed color pattern is subjected to accurate colorimetry irrespective of the type of sheet to be used or the like, and further, sheet consumption is reduced. For the purpose of this, a printing apparatus includes: a print unit configured to perform printing on a sheet; a sensor configured to subject a color pattern formed on the sheet printed; and a mechanism configured to press the sheet against a reference surface at the time of the colorimetry by the sensor. In a case where the color pattern is printed, a position, at which the color pattern in a sheet movement direction is started to be printed, is varied based on the type of sheet to be used. After the color pattern is printed, the sheet is pressed by the mechanism in a state in which a part of the sheet including the sheet tip is suspended from the reference surface.

    • An image processing apparatus includes a photographing condition estimation unit for estimating a photographing condition of the input image based on photometric information and focal information. A Y/C separation unit separates the input image into a luminance signal and a color difference signal; a luminance correction unit extracts an edge from the luminance signal and corrects the luminance signal by a gradation conversion curve; a color difference correction unit corrects the color difference signal based on luminance signals obtained before and after the gradation correction and a theoretical limit characteristic of color reproduction; a skin color correction unit performs skin color correction depending on the photographing condition; and a Y/C synthesis unit synthesizes the luminance signal and the color difference signal obtained after the correction. Gradation correction is performed on the input image such that appropriate hue and saturation are achieved while emphasizing a main object.
