摘要： A corneal implant designed for correcting irregularities of the corneal curvature of a subject, the implant having a dome-shaped structural body configured to impose a regular curvature to the corneal portions designed to be in contact with the implant. The structural body includes an outer peripheral ring and an inner reticular structure. The inner reticular structure includes at least one first and one second series of beams intersecting each other. The beams of the first series have a respective first end connected to the outer peripheral ring. The total area of void portions within the meshes of the reticular structure is between 50 and 99.9% of the surface area of the reticular structure. The inner reticular structure includes an innermost peripheral ring and the beams of the second series include annular beams arranged concentrically to each other. The reticular structure includes a third series of beams, having a respective first end connected to the outer peripheral ring and a respective second end connected to an annular beam defining a circumference or perimeter greater than the circumference or perimeter defined by the innermost peripheral ring.

摘要： A method for fabricating a cornea includes affixing a frame to at least one cell culture insert comprising a generally cylindrical structure having a proximal end and a distal end, a base disposed at the proximal end, and a porous membrane disposed between the proximal end and the distal end; affixing a dome-shaped member to the porous membrane within the frame, the dome-shaped member comprising a crown, a dome base, and a surface connecting the crown and the dome base; depositing a material comprising a matrix-forming compound on the frame such that the crown and at least a portion of the surface of the dome-shaped member is coated with the material comprising the matrix-forming compound; and removing the dome-shaped member to produce a fabricated cornea attached to the frame. A system for fabricating a cornea and a cornea scaffold are also described herein.

摘要： Antibacterial coatings and methods of making the antibacterial coatings are described herein. A first branched polyethylenimine (BPEI) layer is formed and a first glyoxal layer is formed on a surface of the BPEI layer. The first BPEI layer and the first glyoxal layer are cured to form a crosslinked BPEI coating. The first BPEI layer can be modified with superhydrophobic moieties, superhydrophilic moieties, or negatively charged moieties to increase the antifouling characteristics of the coating. The first BPEI layer can be modified with contact-killing bactericidal moieties to increase the bactericidal characteristics of the coating.

摘要： The present solution can temporarily impart the handling characteristics of corneal stroma to the otherwise very thin, flimsy, coiling, and fragile Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) tissue during its insertion into the anterior chamber and positioning in apposition against the cornea of the recipient eye. The device of the present solution can be configured in a number of ways. In a first configuration, a scaffold can be coupled with the endothelial side of the DMEK graft. In a second configuration, the scaffold can be coupled with the stromal side of the DMEK graft. In a third configuration, one or more scaffolds can be coupled with both the endothelial and stromal side of the DMEK graft.
