    • A rocket (100) is disclosed having a body (101) with a bay (102) therein and a hatch (109) which is movable between a bay opened position and a bay closed position by a spring biased hinge (110). The hatch is pivotally coupled to a nose section (104) by a spring biased hinge (11). The hatch is configured to be engaged and disengaged with a catch (118) mounted to the rocket body. With the initial forward movement of the launched rocket the inertia and/or the force of the wind upon the nose section causes the disengagement of the catch whereby the continued movement of the rocket creates a wind upon the nose section which maintains the hatch in its bay closed position. However, as the rocket reaches its apogee the biasing force of the spring biased hinge (110) overcomes the force of the wind upon the nose section so as to pivot the nose cone so as to disengage the hatch for parachute release

    • A toy parachute kit having a toy parachute comprising a frame member which includes a central base and a plurality of spaced, radially extending flexible arms with the arms having canopy attaching means at their outer ends. The entire frame member is integrally formed as a single unit of plastic material in an injection molding machine. A canopy is attachable to said canopy attaching means so that the frame and the canopy form a toy parachute. The parachute is collapsed by bending the arms towards each other and folding the canopy. The parachute in this collapsed position is inserted in a tubular member from which it is manually blown outwardly. The diameter of the central member or base is greater than the diameter of the tubular member so that the parachute cannot accidentally or otherwise be sucked into the mouth of the user. The collapsed frame and folded canopy, while in the tubular member serves as a gasket to block the passage of air so that air blown therethrough ejects the parachute from the tubular member. Upon ejection the collapsed and inwardly bent arms spread outwardly to their normal position so as to open the canopy and to right the parachute and permitting it to descend normally.

    • A rocket toy has a unitary cylindrical body with outwardly projecting fins and a partition wall across the interior near the front end. A tapered cylindrical lip projecting from the body front end receives one of two nose cones. The first, a parachute-receiving nose cone, fits loosely on the tapered lip and is held in place during forward flight by the air resistance of a forwardly facing brake surface on the nose cone exterior. A parachute, furled within the nose cone, has cords attached by an elastic band to the rocket body. After launch, as the rocket toy slows down near the apex of its trajectory, the air resistance is insufficient to hold on the nose cone. The nose cone drops away, permitting the parachute to deploy. The second nose cone fits tightly on the tapered lip and remains in place throughout the entire flight. The rocket toy is launched by the compression of air within a pair of telescoped tubes, one of which is connected to the rocket body cylindrical rear end during launch.

    • A power pod is releasably coupled with a model aircraft, such as a model glider plane, to initially power the aircraft into flight and to thereafter separate from the aircraft under the influence of gravity. In the preferred embodiments of the invention, an adaptor element is affixed to the underside of the model aircraft fuselage, and the power pod itself is releasably coupled with the adaptor. The releasable coupling of the power pod with the adaptor is structured such that the power pod remains coupled with the adaptor to thereby power the model aircraft into flight as long as the power pod is providing a forward thrust. In one embodiment, the power pod separates from the adaptor when operation of the power pod ceases; in another embodiment, the power pod remains coupled with the adaptor after operation of the power pod ceases with the pod separating from the adaptor upon command of a remote control radio signal. Upon separation of the power pod from the adaptor, a parachute stored within the pod is deployed by means of a rip cord connected at one end to the model aircraft. The rip cord includes a replaceable, breakable link which breaks as the pod and the deployed parachute fall away from the model aircraft. The cord may have a member on the end which has releasable frictional engagement with the parachute. The power pod includes an adjustable engine mounting plate for permitting the angle of thrust to be established at optimum inclination. The adaptor includes a layer of deformable, reslient material which permits the adaptor to mount without modification to different fuselage configurations. The parachute is attached to the power pod in such a way that the power pod lands in an orientation which minimizes any risk of damage to the pod upon impact with the ground.

    • A parachute toy having a parachute connected to a hollow capsule adapted to receive the parachute in its undeployed condition. An air intake at the front of the capsule contains an air valve for selectively allowing airflow into the interior of the capsule to deploy the parachute. The parachute is initially in its undeployed condition and the toy is whirled about in a circular path by a string. The string is subsequently released, allowing centrifugal force to fling the toy into the air. At the apex of flight, the air valve automatically opens, allowing air to flow into the toy body and deploy the parachute. The parachute supports the capsule as the capsule falls slowly back to the ground. The toy further includes means for quickly and easily returning the parachute to its undeployed position inside the capsule.
