    • A process for extruding a section or the like body from an ingot is such that an ingot is introduced into a bore of a container and, by means of an extrusion stem, is fed in the direction of extrusion into a shape-giving opening in a die. Before the ingot enters the die opening, it is pushed out of the container by an amount corresponding to the width (t) of a collar whereupon a disk-shaped slice is sheared off the free end of the ingot and removed. The free end of the ingot is then pushed onto the die opening. In order to carry out this process, a shearing tool is provided after the end of the container facing the die and a movable shearing blade positioned over that entrance to the container bore. The disk-shaped slice should preferably be sheared away together with a residual butt of the previously extruded ingot which faces away from the die. To that end, a shearing tool with two shearing blades is provided and can be moved radially with respect to the longitudinal axis (A) of the container bore.

    • This invention provides an indirect metal extrusion method, in which free die system is adopted. A die (8) of two-stepped structure is capable of removing shell or outer layer of a billet simultaneously at the time of extrusion, and eliminating the container cleaning cycle after the extrusion. Besides, a shear support (3), an independent body of the container (2), is disposed on the nearer side of the container (2) to an extrusion ram (4), so that discard integrally clung to the die (8) may be served after finishing of an extrusion stroke off the die (8) which is rested on the shear support (3) by means of a shear (14) or a shearing apparatus. This method enables shortening of the extrusion cycle and eliminating damage to principal structure of the extruder.

    • A press operated by the reverse method comprising a fixed tubular die casing defining a pressing axis, a main jack operative to displace a cross beam supported for displacement along the pressing axis, a displaceable holder disposed between the cross beam and the tubular die casing and having a bore disposed along the pressing axis for receiving a billet to be pressed. The bore has open ends and the holder is capable of fitting over the die casing by axial displacement thereof. A closure member is carried by a slide for closing one end of the bore in the holder; the slide is displaceable on the cross beam transversely with respect to the pressing axis. A support is slidably mounted parallel to the slide and is carried by an auxiliary cross beam which is slidably mounted on the main cross beam for movement parallel to the pressing axis. The support and the slide are simultaneously displaceable under the action of a jack or other suitable device. A rod is connected to the support and is slidably mounted axially in the slide for operating auxiliary members slidably mounted in the slide.

    • Apparatus and method for removing a metal collar from the lower portion of the piston of a metal extrusion press which may be attached to the press. A pivotally mounted frame has a portion which can be moved toward and away from the piston while it is retracted from the metal container and the frame carries two cutting knives and two divaricating members disposed alternately around the piston axis. Each knife and each divaricating means is movable parallel to the axis of the piston and radially outwardly of the piston by a pair of pivotally interconnected fluid-actuable, cylinder and piston assemblies. The frame may also carry apparatus for loading container sealing discs on the press metal container and may be in the form of a cage with an openable side.
