    • An abrasive deburring machine comprised of a plurality of individually controlled abrasive modules, each having a rotatable drum type brush with flexible bristles, the drum is mounted on a rotatable support with axis of rotation generally perpendicular to the rotational axis of the drum. Each support with brush and support drive are mounted inside of a housing therefore creating a module. Plurality of such modules can be combined in a desired configuration to form a deburring machine or finishing/polishing machine tailored to a specific geometry of the work piece or part to be deburred, finished or polished. Each drum and drum support, including its axial angular position are controlled independently, which for a pre-programmed movement of all brushes in order to conform to a complex shape of the part to be deburred, optimize the process of deburring and maximize the durability of abrasive brushes. The drum type brush is preferably made of polystyrene foam with helical groove along its outer shape containing a continuous abrasive filament secured inside the groove and having bristle or strap like abrasive extremities. The invention includes a variety of modes of use being mostly applicable for deburring and finishing operations in Aerospace sector as well as in finishing operations in other metal, plastic and woodworking industries.

    • An apparatus for cleaning a bolt having a threaded portion with a longitudinal axis of rotation. The apparatus includes a bolt receiving portion and a cleaning member. The bolt receiving portion has a throughway configured to receive the threaded portion of the bolt when the threaded portion is rotating about the longitudinal axis of rotation. The cleaning member is coupled to the bolt receiving portion and has a plurality of cleaning projections positioned to contact and clean the threaded portion of the bolt as the rotating threaded portion of the bolt passes through the throughway. The projections may be bristles or pins. Optionally, the bolt receiving portion may include a plurality of throughways each configured to receive a threaded portion having a different outer diameter. Optionally, the apparatus may include a handle portion that may be selectively couplable to the bolt receiving portion.

    • Rotary tools configured to sand components and accommodate complex geometries thereof are provided. The rotary tools may include a rotary head and a shaft. Bristles and an abrasive material may be coupled to the abrasive material. The rotary tools may additionally include outlets configured to receive a flow of coolant to cool the rotary tool. A system configured to convert a flood coolant system to a through spindle coolant system is also provided. The system may include a hollow shaft with inlets and a redirector therein. A flow receptor may include scoops that receive coolant sprayed from a flood coolant system and direct the coolant through the inlets in the hollow shaft. Thereby, the coolant may contact the redirector and be directed downward through the hollow shaft to a rotary tool, such as the rotary tool described above.

    • A method for preparing a surface, previously roughed in a mechanical manner and comprising sharp-edged ridges and recesses, on metal workpieces for applying a thermally sprayed layer. The roughened layer is machined by hammer or percussion brushes with a rapidly rotating hammer or percussion brush having a plurality of resilient percussion wires that are oriented in a radially outward manner, such that the edges of the ridges are broken in order to improve the adhesion of the subsequently applied thermally sprayed layer or are at least curved forming rear sections. The brush rotates at a high rotational speed of approximately 3000-6000 rotations per minute and is displaced laterally with its rotational axis being at a parallel distance that remains constant in relation to the surface of the workpiece such that percussion wires distributed on the periphery of the brush impact with the ends thereof of the surface areas adjacent to the workpiece at an oblique angle that is less than 90° in rapid succession. The brush consists of an essentially cylindrical rotationally symmetrical brush body having a plurality of support bars that are parallel to the axis, that are mounted on the periphery of the brush between front-sided brush disks.
