    • A multilayer container including an outer relatively rigid plastic layer having a body portion, a finish defining an opening and a base having an atmospheric vent opening therethrough. The container includes an inner flexible plastic layer of relative thin flexible material throughout which does not adhere to the outer plastic layer. The inner flexible layer has a closed bottom portion engaging the inner surface of the finish of the outer plastic layer and a radially extending flange portion of the inner layer overlying the finish of the outer layer. The outer layer preferably comprises an olefin and the inner layer preferably comprises amorphous nylon. The method of making the multilayer container includes coextruding a parison comprising the relatively thick outer layer of plastic material and the relatively thin inner layer of plastic material, closing molds about the parison, blow molding the parison to form the outer rigid plastic layer having a body portion, the finish defining an opening, and the base and the inner flexible layer of relatively thin flexible material.

    • A load cell deflasher for the punch and die deflash processing of product from an extrusion includes a load cell pressure transducer interconnected with a punch to sense pressure measurements of the punch against the extrusion at the die and communicate the measurements to a programmable logic controller that controls the extension and retraction of the punch to the die and the structure accommodating pre-punch alignment of the extrusion to the die. The pressure measurements are logged in a trending database of the programmable logic controller. If a pressure measurement exceeds a threshold value, to programmable logic controller can command instruct a positioning actuator of the punch to abort its punch stroke prior to completion. If the programmable logic controller determines an upward trend of pressure measurements, an auto-tune mode of the programmable logic controller can command instruct an extrusion card transfer positioning actuator to adjustably position a gripper carriage transferring the extrusion in intervening proximity between the punch and die to an optimal position for extrusion deflashing.

    • A closure mechanism for a metallographic sample pressure molding system includes a mold cylinder having a bayonet socket for receiving a closure member which includes an upper ram mounted thereto for lockably enclosing the mold chamber defined by the cylinder. The closure member includes a cam and means for actuating the cam for moving the upper ram an incremental distance to break flashing from the molded metallographic specimen once cured for facilitating removal of the specimen and its surrounding thermoset or thermoplastic mount. In the preferred embodiment, the mold cylinder is demountable to a mold collar at an end remote from the closure member. A piston extends into the mold chamber through the collar and an alignment coupling joins the piston to a piston rod facilitating installation of the mold cylinder to the collar. The system provides a positive locking mold chamber with easy access and facilitates removal of the molded article by breaking the flashing from the article once molded.
