    • An improved kernmantle cord in part comprises 550-Paracord manufactured to exceed MIL-STD-C-5040H Type III. The improved kern at the core includes three nylon fibers in each of seven yarns, one continuous filament of waterproofed paraffin-waxed jute twine fiber tinder, one continuous abrasion-resistant nylon or fluorocarbon monofilament, and one continuous copper wire. The monofilament is strong enough for 50# test, yet small enough not to adversely impact the pliability of the cord as a whole. The copper wire itself may be multistrand or braided to improve flexibility or solid to provide more body. The mantle sheathing is of woven nylon and provides abrasion resistance for the whole cord, and functions as an electrical insulator for the copper wire and fireproofing for the paraffin-waxed jute twine fiber tinder.

    • An apparatus is disclosed for braiding fine denier yarns to form a braided suture product which includes a frame, and a main carrier support plate supported on the frame and having a pair of undulating guide channels intersecting each other for guiding a plurality of yarn carriers. A plurality of yarn carriers are supported on the main carrier support plate, and each supports a bobbin for dispensing fine denier yarn. The yarn carriers are directed over intersecting paths corresponding to the shape of the guide channels, with a first set of the carriers being directed in a first direction and a second set of the carriers being directed in the opposite direction. The yarns are received in a common braiding zone above the yarn carriers while the yarn carriers are directed through the intersecting paths of the guide channels to form a braided sheath from the yarns. The tension of the final braided product is controlled within predetermined ranges to permit formation of a braided product of predetermined appearance. A method of producing the braided product on the inventive braiding apparatus is also disclosed.

    • A machine for manufacturing garlands comprising a device for producing a tube from filament-like or strip-like material on two conveyor screws arranged at a distance from one another, which are mounted on one side, driven at the same speed in opposite directions, and have opposite threads by using two parallel pairs of threads, each of said pairs of threads consisting of a core wire or thread extending through a longitudinal bore of said conveyor screws, and an outer wire or thread, and means for twisting said pairs of wire or thread around sections of said winding material, said sections being formed by severing said tube, and with means for drawing off the pairs of wire or thread. The conveyor screws are located at two corners of an imaginary polygon which is symmetrical around the center of the line connecting said corners. Additional conveyor screws are arranged at the remaining corners of said polygon driven at the same speed, so that the number of conveyor screws having one direction of rotation is equal to the number of conveyor screws having an opposite direction of rotation. A cutting device is arranged at each side of the intersecting lines for centrally severing the corresponding half of the tube.
