The method uses a borehole survey tool 14 that is arranged to at least log its position in three-dimensional space. The borehole survey tool 14 is run down the drill string 12 in which the inner core barrel assembly 16 is installed. The inner core barrel assembly 16 is arranged to either provide or facilitate detection of an indication of tool face of a core sample 24 held in the inner core barrel assembly 16. The indication of tool face is then transferred mechanically or electronically to the visiting borehole survey tool 14.

摘要： A method and system of validating orientation of a core obtained by drilling the core from a subsurface body of material, the method including: a) determining that vibration from drilling is below a nominated level, b) recording data relating to orientation of the core to be retrieved, the data recorded using a downhole core orientation data recording device, c) separating the core from the subsurface body, and d) obtaining from the core orientation data recording device an indication of the orientation of the core based on the recorded data obtained when the vibration from drilling was below the nominated level and before the core was separated from the subsurface body. A method of determining orientation of a core sample obtained by drilling from aboveground into a subsurface body includes recording data relating to a core sample being obtained by the drilling when vibration from drilling is below a threshold; providing an input to a user operated communication device; the communication device identifying a time of the user input to the communication device; retrieving the data gathering device and core sample; communicating between the communication device and the retrieved data gathering device; determining from indications provided by the retrieved data gathering device an orientation of the core sample.

摘要： The present application discloses the use of the pre-stressed steel strand in the procedure of multi-angle core drilling. Using the properties of high strength and toughness of pre-stressed steel strand material, the core internal pipe is pushed inside the drill rod without deformation and damage. The rolling wheel is designed to rapidly take out and put back the pre-stressed steel strand to finish the extracting of the core, without taking out and putting back the drill rod. Without altering the original structure of the drilling machine, the technology of 360° core drilling is realized. Problems of tedious and arduous operations and a low efficiency in multi-angle drilling are resolved completely. The use of the pre-stressed steel strand not only can significantly improve the drilling-in efficiency, but also is beneficial to guarantee the quality of the rock mineral coring, reduce the cost of drilling, lower the labor intensity notably.

The bit crown can be impregnated with abrasive cutting media and include one or more external flutes. The integrated reamer can be positioned at the base the bit crown and include one or more channels that align with one or more of the outer flutes. The channels can taper such that they increase in width as they extend away from the bit crown.
