    • A method and a system for automatic identification of ammunition type simultaneously with the performance of loading is based on optical reading of the ammunition's silhouette, and emits a signal concerning ammunition type to a computer for calculation of parameters for firing of the ammunition or to a display panel which indicates the ballistic data for the ammunition. The system is specially, but not exclusively, intended for use in armored vehicles. The system may include a selector switch for selecting between AUTOMATIC and MANUAL modes. The method and the system may also be employed for automatic correction of firing data as a result of wear caused by the use of different ammunition types.

    • A solenoid selector switch shield for protecting the solenoid switch in a feeder assembly that feeds ammunition to a weapons system. The solenoid selector switch shield is designed to fit over the solenoid and the selector switch and prevent damage to the selector switch during both shipping and operation of the weapons system. In a preferred embodiment the solenoid selector switch shield is characterized by a cylindrical shield barrel having a bevelled access end and a mount end provided with an end mount bracket for mounting the shield to the feeder assembly. A middle bracket is also welded or otherwise attached to the shield barrel and is likewise secured to the feeder assembly. The bevelled access end of the shield barrel is designed to facilitate optimum access to the selector switch knob of the solenoid switch for manipulating the solenoid switch and determining the type of ammunition to be fed to the weapons system by the feeder assembly.

    • A weapon assembly for an armored vehicle includes a turret; a turret cage attached to and being disposed underneath the turret; a weapon supported in the turret and having a barrel; and a belt magazine received in part in the turret and in part in the turret cage. The belt magazine has a loading belt and a plurality of horizontally disposed, ammunition-accommodating container tubes attached to the loading belt. The belt magazine further has a frontal receiving position above the turret cage and laterally of the turret. A loading tube is swingably supported behind the weapon for movement between a first position and a second position. In the first position the loading tube is in alignment with the container tube when the latter is in the frontal receiving position. In the second position the loading tube is in alignment with the weapon barrel in a rearward receiving position. There are further provided a first loading device for pushing ammunition from the container tube, when situated in the frontal receiving position, into the loading tube and a second loading device for pushing ammunition, in the rearward receiving position, from the loading tube into a loading chamber of the weapon.

    • A method and an apparatus for loading artillery guns intended for non-cartridge ammunition is provided. The loading is done by a pair of flick rammers including a first flick rammer for shells and a second flick rammer for propellant charges. Each of the flick rammers is positioned at an end position where the flick rammers are loaded with the shell and propellant charge, respectively, and in which the gun can recoil between the flick rammers. After the first flick rammer is loaded, it is moved towards the second flick rammer into a position in which the shell in the first flick rammer is in line with a gun barrel. The first flick rammer is then activated to move the shell into the gun barrel. The flick rammers are then jointly displaced in an opposite direction until the first flick rammer is in its end position and the propellant charges in the second flick rammer are in line with the gun barrel. The second flick rammer is then activated moving the propellant charges into the gun barrel and after this the second flick rammer is returned to its end position.

    • An ammunition feed system for a firearm that can pivot in elevation about a horizontal elevation axis includes an ammunition storage device, a loading device and an intermediate transfer section. The ammunition storage device is fixed relative to the elevation axis. The ammunition storage device includes at least two magazines with a common first entry/exit opening through which the rounds of the ammunition pass. Each of the two magazines has a round transport assembly. The rounds are unconnected and selectively movable in a loading direction from the two magazines through the first entry/exit opening and in an unloading direction opposite the moving direction. The loading device individually loads the rounds into a firing chamber of the firearm and moves with the firearm in elevation. The intermediate transfer section links and transfers the rounds between the ammunition storage device and the loading device. The intermediate transfer section includes a first two-way round transfer device linked with the ammunition storage device to guide the rounds through a second entry/exit opening. A second two-way transfer device guides the rounds between the second entry/exit opening and the loading device. A drive shaft drives the first and second two-way round transfer devices and at least the respective round transfer assembly of the selected magazine. A synchronization device maintains the nonselected other of the two magazines in synchronization with the intermediate transfer section during movement of the firearm in elevation.

    • When using a multi-barrel firing weapon, such as a Gatling-type gun or canon, it is desired during a firing burst, to first fire the initial or lead cartridge or ammunition round when the rotating array of weapon barrels, during running up to speed, has attained its full rotational speed, that is, when the firing weapon is capable of firing at the full or maximum firing rate. In this way there is realized the desired high precision and low round scattering of the weapon system. The cartridge infeed apparatus requires a certain amount of time until it has reached its full cartridge infeed velocity. The initial or lead cartridge therefore should only then be delivered to the multi-barrel firing weapon after completion of the running up to speed of the array of weapon barrels and after the cartridge infeed apparatus has reached its full or maximum cartridge infeed velocity. To that end, there are provided two cartridge transfer wheels which are interconnected by a clutch, these cartridge transfer wheels being arranged between two endless chains. There are also provided a separate cartridge return channel and a sensor for determining the starting position of the initial or lead cartridge.

    • In an armoured vehicle with a turret, a weapon mounted therein and a magazine housed in the armoured vehicle and receiving large calibre ammunition in the upright position in a concentric arrangement with respect to the turret rotation axis is arranged a loader, which has a loading arm gripping the ammunition on the magazine and raising it into an aligned position with the weapon bore axis, i.e. the loading position. The loader is arranged on a ring mount positioned roughly below the weapon breech block on the turret platform and whose rotation axis coincides with that of the turret and has a multilever guide supported on the ring mount and movable in a vertical plane, which raises the loading arm with the upright ammunition in a steep movement path and only towards the end of the movement path swings into the loading position.
