摘要： An embodiment of an integrated atom chip used for measuring atoms is discussed. One or more magnetic traps integrated with an optical waveguide that is imprinted onto the integrated atom chip facilitate loading of the atoms into an evanescent field optical trap of the optical waveguide in order to measure the atoms. The two or more stages of cooling are used to progressively cool the atoms from an initial temperature down to a final temperature of the atoms when mode matched and loaded into the evanescent field optical trap of the optical waveguide.

摘要： A method for detecting rotation of a carrier utilizes a device embedded in said carrier that comprises an enclosure containing a gaseous mixture of an alkali metal and a noble gas. The method includes a step of starting up (DEM-MEOP) the device during which the noble gas is polarised by utilizing metastability exchange optical pumping. The start-up step is followed by a step of acquisition (MES-SEOP) by the device of a signal representative of said rotation during which the noble gas is maintained polarised by utilizing spin exchange optical pumping. The invention extends to the device and to an inertial navigation unit integrating said device and to an inertial navigation method implementing the method for detecting rotation of the carrier.

摘要： One example embodiment includes an atomic sensor system. The system includes a vapor cell comprising an alkali metal vapor that precesses in response to a magnetic field. The system also includes a probe laser that generates an optical probe beam that is modulated about a center frequency and which is provided through the vapor cell. A photodetector assembly generates an intensity signal corresponding to a Faraday rotation associated with a detection beam that is associated with the optical probe beam exiting the vapor cell. The system further includes a detection system configured to demodulate the intensity signal at a frequency corresponding to a modulation frequency of the optical probe beam and to generate a feedback signal based on the demodulated intensity signal. The feedback signal is provided to the probe laser to substantially stabilize the center frequency of the optical probe beam based on the feedback signal.

摘要： A laser-source assembly that is configured to illuminate a vacuum chamber containing atoms in the gaseous state so as to implement a cold-atom inertial sensor, the atoms having at least two fundamental levels that are separated by a fundamental frequency difference comprised between 1 and a few gigahertz, the assembly comprises: a master laser that emits a beam having a master frequency; a first control loop that is configured to stabilize the master frequency of the master laser on a frequency corresponding to half a set frequency of an atomic transition between a fundamental level and an excited level of the atoms; a slave laser that has a slave frequency; and a second control loop that is configured to stabilize the slave frequency of the slave laser with respect to the master frequency, the slave frequency being offset with respect to the master frequency successively, over time, by a first preset offset value, a second preset offset value, and a third preset offset value, the offset values being comprised in an interval equal to half the fundamental frequency difference plus or minus a few hundred MHz.

摘要： One example includes a sensor system. A cell system includes a pump laser which generates a pump beam to polarize alkali metal vapor enclosed within a sensor cell. A detection system includes a probe laser to generate a probe beam. The detection system can calculate at least one measurable parameter based on characteristics of the probe beam passing through the sensor cell resulting from precession of the polarized alkali metal vapor in response to an applied magnetic field. A pump beam control system pulse-width modulates a frequency of the pump beam to provide a pulse-width modulated (PWM) pump beam, and controls a duty-cycle of the PWM pump beam based on the characteristics of the probe beam passing through the sensor cell in a feedback manner to control polarization uniformity of the alkali metal vapor and to mitigate the effects of AC Stark shift on the at least one measurable parameter.

摘要： An NMR gyroscope system includes a vapor cell that includes an alkali metal, a first gyromagnetic isotope, and a second gyromagnetic isotope, and a pump laser generates an optical pump beam. A magnetic field generator generates a magnetic field that is substantially aligned with a sensitive axis to cause the first and second gyromagnetic isotopes to counter-precess based on the optical pump beam and the alkali metal. A probe laser provides an optical probe beam through the vapor cell that exits the vapor cell as a detection beam, and a detection system monitors the detection beam and to determine a rotation of the NMR gyroscope system about a sensitive axis based on a modulation of the detection beam in response to precession of the first and second gyromagnetic isotopes and based on a predetermined constant ratio of precession of the first and second gyromagnetic isotopes.

One embodiment provides an apparatus including a cell containing alkali and active nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) isotope(s) atoms, a magnet providing a first magnetic field, a light source emitting diverging light that passes through the cell, and optics which circularly polarize the diverging light. A longitudinal component of the diverging light optically pumps the alkali atoms and, in conjunction with a second magnetic field orthogonal to the first magnetic field or a modulation of the diverging light, causes the alkali and NMR isotope atoms to precess about the first field. A transverse component of the diverging light acts as a probe beam for observing the precession. The apparatus further includes a polarizing beam splitter to split light that has passed through the cell into orthogonally polarized components detected by respective photodetectors and used to determine rotations relative to an inertial frame.
