    • There is disclosed a microfilm search device for detecting the presence of frames from a density change in the running direction of a microfilm, in which even if a frame contains therein a portion having substantially the same density as that of an interspace between frames, the portion is prevented from being incorrectly determined as between-frames, and frames are correctly detected to prevent a search error. The device is provided with an encoder for outputting a sampling signal for each predetermined feeding amount of the microfilm; plural density sensors for detecting a film density in different positions along a width direction within a frame travel width to output density signals; a binarizing section for binarizing the density signals into binarized signals having a logic ZERO or ONE in synchronization with the sampling signal; a determination section for detecting the presence of frames using a logical product or a logical sum of the plural binarized signals to output a determination signal; and a searching section for searching for a desired frame based on the determination signal.

    • A loose-leaf sheet for a transparency storage book is formed from a single paper sheet, and has a transparency receiving side, a binding side, a clamping side, and a blocking side. The clamping side is folded along a first fold line to form a clamping strip. The blocking side is folded along a second fold line to form a blocking strip. The binding side is folded along a third fold line to form a binding strip unit, which is formed with a plurality of binding holes. A transparency for projector use can be inserted into the sheet through the transparency receiving side, and is clamped on the clamping side. The binding strip unit, the clamping strip and the blocking strip are arranged in a U-shape, within which the transparency is confined.

    • A control method of a microfilm image reader is provided for reducing the amount of image data to be transferred from a scanner to a host computer, making the transfer time short and hence lengthening the free time of a bus, reducing the storage capacity needed for storing the image data, and simplifying the operation procedure by omitting the process of eliminating the black frame portion when printed out. The host computer supplies the scanner with a window parameter containing a range of reading area, and the scanner detects only an image area from all the reading area to transfer image data of the detected image area to the host computer together with attribute information containing the size of the image area. The attribute information may be managed by a header system, and data on a print position of the target image may be contained in the attribute information.

    • A filmstrip viewer is provided for viewing positive or negative images on filmstrips contained in so-called thrust film cartridges. The viewer has a film drive for advancing film from the thrust cartridge to a take-up spool for selectively advancing frame images into a frame viewing station for direct or projection viewing. Natural, or artificial illumination may be provided. Optional motorized or manual drives may be used to provide film advance and rewind functions. An interlocked loading door can prevent attempted removal of a cartridge prior to full rewinding of the filmstrip and, optionally, require a specific spool parking orientation prior to opening of the loading door.

    • An image projecting apparatus for projecting an image recorded in a microfilm incorporated in a cartridge on a screen, for example, is furnished with a loading device which has a container storing a plurality of cartridges detachably attached thereto. The cartridges in the container are sequentially loaded at a prescribed position of a roll film carrier by a loading mechanism of the loading device and subjected to screening of a microfilm for retrieval of a desired image. The cartridge containing the microfilm which had undergone the screening is extracted from the prescribed position and returned to the container by a discharge mechanism. The discharge mechanism returns the cartridge loaded at the prescribed position via a path independent of the path used by the loading mechanism for moving the cartridge. The loading mechanism is provided with a set bar for extracting a cartridge from the container and a front surface part for locating the extracted cartridge at a prescribed position of the roll film carrier and loading it. The front surface part is disposed freely movably between an opening position for retaining the cartridge extracted by the set bar and a shutting position for loading the cartridge. The direction of a cartridge in the container is different before the cartridge is extracted by the loading mechanism and after it is returned by the discharge mechanism.

    • A protector adapted to accommodate a transparency inserted therein in a moist state, the transparency drying out while in the protector and being thereafter maintained in clean, dust-free and dry condition so that it is useable with an overhead optical projector which casts the image carried by the transparency onto a viewing screen. The protector is constituted by an open-ended, rectangular sleeve formed of moisture-impermeable transparent synthetic plastic film material of high strength having front and rear panels between which the inserted transparency is sandwiched, and a sheet of hygroscopic transparent acetate film which is interposed between the moist transparency and the front panel. The sheet act to absorb moisture from the transparency and to dissipate it, thereby drying out the transparency.

    • A mark detecting apparatus comprises an illuminator means for illuminating a film with marks having density different from the density of its periphery, a plurality of photosensors arranged in the feeding direction of the film, which serve as light receivers for receiving the transmitting light of the film illuminated by the illuminator means to detect the presence of marks, setting device for establishing a reference value on the basis of the maximum value and quasimaximal value among each of the output signals of the photosensors, and discriminator for discriminating the presence of marks by comparing the reference value established by the setting device and the output of the light receivers. With the structure thus arranged, it is possible to establish the binalizing reference value of the photosensors accurately even when the fluctuation of the luminous energy of the light source occurs as well as to correctly establish the reference value reliably even when the base density of the film varies.
