    • A governor hydraulic pressure supply apparatus is provided for use with the vehicle automatic transmission system and includes a governor valve mounted on a rotary output shaft from the automatic transmission, the output shaft having an internal input fluid line for supplying a line pressure to the governor valve and an internal output fluid line receiving a governor pressure from the governor valve, and the governor valve body having an internal input fluid line to be connected to the input line from the output shaft and an internal governor pressure output line to be connected to the output line in the shaft, wherein the joined faces between the governor valve and output shaft at which the fluid lines are respectively connected with each other are brought in close contact with each other by tightening the two element by means of a tightening bolt adjacent to the joined faces, thereby preventing fluid leak from the faces.

    • A speed control system includes a pair of rotatable plates having at least one power transmission roller positioned in a toroidal track formed by annular grooves in the plates. Each plate is received within a rotatable housing to which it is drivingly connected by means of a cooperating track follower and helical track so that the plate rotates with the associated housing but is free to move axially relative thereto in a screw-like motion. One housing is driven by an engine and its plate drives the other plate by means of the power transmission roller. The roller is mounted on a carrier pivotally mounted about an axis which is substantially normal to the axis of rotation of the plates and is offset from the center of the roller so that, on axial displacement of the plates, the carrier pivots so that the positions of engagement between the roller and the respective grooves change thus effecting a change in relative angular velocity of the plates. The plates are biased towards each other and into engagement with the roller by fluid under pressure in an expansible chamber associated with one of the plates and by a spring acting on the other plate. The pressure in the expansible chamber is controlled in response to the rotational speed of one of the plates.

    • The output rotation of an automatic transmission is transferred to a flyweight to rotate it. A spool is depressed in an axial direction under the centrifugal force of the flyweight, generating a governor hydraulic pressure corresponding to the rotational speed of the flyweight. Some of the governor pressure is fed back to the spool. The force in the direction opposite to the pressing force generated by the flyweight is applied to the spool, thereby balancing the spool. A spring enclosing chamber communicating with the outside is formed serially in the axial direction of the spool and separately from the feedback hydraulic pressure. A force in the direction opposite to the pressing force of the flyweight is exerted on the spool by the spring disposed in the spring enclosing chamber, thereby establishing a breakpoint at which generation of the governor hydraulic pressure occurs.

    • A governor valve assembly for use with an automatic transmission is rotatably mounted on the output shaft of the transmission and is secured against axial displacement along the shaft. The valve assembly includes at least one chamber having an inlet port for introducing a pressurized fluid medium into the valve assembly and an outlet port for supplying the pressurized fluid medium at governor pressure to the automatic transmission. A combination of a valve member and an assembly of weights and springs is arranged within the chamber so that, as the output shaft rotates at increasing speeds, variable centrifugal forces are developed by the assembly of weights and springs and the position of the valve member is regulated to determine the governor pressure supplied to the output port. The valve member can be formed as one of the weights or as a separate valve spool. The assembly of weights and springs consists of at least three different weights and at least two different springs with each spring extending between a different pair of weights. Accordingly, by means of the arrangement of the weights, it is possible to change the governor pressure in three steps.
