    • A network comprises a plurality of interconnected switches that implement a topology database synchronization technique in which each switch determines whether its topology database has already been transmitted to a neighboring switch when a new link is formed to the neighboring switch. When a new electrical connection is detected, the local switch determines whether any of its other ports have already been connected to the same neighboring switch. If no other port on the local switch has been connected to the neighboring switch, the local switch transmits its topology database to the neighboring switch. If the local switch determines that it has already been connected to the neighboring switch via another one of its ports, the local switch does not yet again copy of the database to the neighboring switch. Also, link state record updates are propagated via only one inter-switch link to a neighboring switch, not all possible links.

    • A method and a device in a communication apparatus for maintaining an established connection between said apparatus and a network node. The connection is established by a mobility management unit for providing a mobility management procedure. An acceptance message is issued by the node in response to a request relating to a first mobility management procedure. If any request relating to a second mobility management procedure issued by an upper layer is received by the mobility management unit after the request relating to the first procedure is transmitted and before the acceptance message is received, a maintaining request to maintain the connection is transmitted to the node in response to the acceptance message.

    • A protocol for wireless data exchange may be used in conjunction with two or more portable computer systems. One of the portable computer systems may be a personal digital assistant (PDA) having an internal or an external wireless communication unit. The protocol can be used by a sending application residing on the portable computer system to transparently send a wireless message to a receiving computer system. The packet is then automatically routed to the proper destination application residing on the receiver utilizing a data type identifier. The data type identifier is used by the receiver, in conjunction with an application registry, to determine the proper destination application.
