    • When a connector of a power cord is connected to an inlet of a printer, an RFID reader of the printer acquires rating information of the power cord by reading the rating information from an RFID-IC of the power cord. Then, a controller of the printer judges whether the rating of the power cord conforms to the rating of the printer based on the rating information of the power cord and rating information of the printer. If it is judged that the rating of the power cord does not conform to the rating of the printer, the controller sets the printer to a sleep mode, in which the printer is operated with a current value within the rating range of the power cord, and also causes relevant parts of the printer such as an alarm generator to issue an alert/alarm to the operator.

    • An alarm apparatus for sensing occurrence of abnormality in a plant that manufactures products by processing substrates, the alarm apparatus includes: means responsive to an inspection result of a surface of the substrates during manufacturing the products for aggregating degree of occurrence of defects for each monitoring unit region to produce an aggregation result, the monitoring unit region having a prescribed size configured for each type of the abnormality; means for comparing the degree of occurrence of defects in each of the monitoring unit regions with a reference; and means responsive to detection of the monitoring unit region with the degree of occurrence of defects being higher than the reference for transmitting an alarm and outputting the aggregation result.

    • A fail-safe system for the detection of water leaks, and for the prevention of damage therefrom. In a home or building which includes a hot-water tank and a water tank for a toilet, e.g., the damage-prevention system comprises valves for shutting off the supply of water to the tanks, and other valves for draining the tanks through discharge lines to the outside of the home or building. At the same time, power to the hot-water tank is shut off. A fail-safe water detector comprises a float with a metal cap, a first pair of electrical probes below the float, and a second pair of electrical probes above the metal cap and separated from the cap by an air gap. A circuit is closed in any of three ways: (1) when water contacts the first pair of probes, (2) when water raises the float and makes contact between the metal cap and the second pair of probes, and (3) when water contacts the second pair of probes.

    • A system and method for containing leaks from appliances. A fluid containment member has a bottom panel and four side panels. At least one of the side panels is movable relative to the bottom panel to allow the fluid containment member to be reconfigured among a plurality of configurations. In one configuration, one of the side walls is made substantially coplanar with the bottom panel to allow an appliance to be placed onto the bottom panel. In a second configuration all four side panels extend at an angle to the bottom panel to define a sump region that is enclosed on five sides. In a third configuration, all four side panels are substantially coplanar with the bottom panel to allow the fluid containment member to be stored in a flat configuration. Indicator means may be provided to indicate the presence of water in the sump region.
