    • A vehicle travel control system wherein a plurality of objects ahead of a subject vehicle are detected by a radar system. Data corresponding to the plurality of objects within a predetermined region is united into a target object corresponding to a large-sized vehicle. If one of the objects is in a region spaced forward a predetermined distance from a representative position of the target object, which is spaced leftwards in a direction toward at an estimated locus at a predetermined distance apart from a left end point of the representative position, which is spaced forward at a predetermined distance from the subject vehicle and which is included in the estimated locus of the subject vehicle, one of the objects is separated as a target object corresponding to a small-sized vehicle from the original target object to control the traveling of the subject vehicle relative to the small-sized vehicle within the estimated locus.

    • A portable master controller for a locomotive remote control system is provided including a user interface, a tilt sensor, a processing unit and a transmission unit. The user interface is receives commands to control a movement of the locomotive from a human operator and generates a control signal on the basis of the commands. The tilt sensor generates inclination information about the portable master controller. The processing unit generates a digital command signal that includes a first component derived from the control signal received from the user interface and a second component derived from the inclination information received from the tilt sensor. The second component of the digital command signal allows a slave controller to determine whether the portable master controller is in an unsafe operational condition. The transmission unit then generates a RF transmission for conveying the digital command signal to a slave controller.

    • A system, a program storage device and a software method for efficient handling of multiple Unicode formats in the same database on a table level is provided. The routines of the method are used to create a plurality of database tables and specify each table data storage format, including a first table for storing data in a first Unicode format and a second table for storing data in a second Unicode format. The method inputs characters which are encoded in the first Unicode format. When the data should be stored in the second Unicode format, the method uses a conversion routine for transforming some inputted characters into the second Unicode format and stores them in the second table, and then stores unconverted inputted characters in the first table. The first Unicode format is preferably the UCS-2 format and the second Unicode format is the UTF-8 format.

    • Systems and methods are provided through which printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) that share components that have a high rate of failure are identified. The components are substantially similar components, such as components that are embodied on a reel and/or components that were manufactured by the same manufacturer. The identification (ID) of substantially similar components are captured, such as by scanning a barcode ID of the substantially similar components, an ID of each printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) is captured, such as by scanning a barcode ID of each PCBA. Later, an association between the ID of each PCBA and the ID of the substantially similar components is determined. PCBAs that share components that have a high rate of failure are identified from the association. The association is used to identify PCBAs that are at risk for sharing common failures.
