    • A pressing structure for a hole-punching unit includes an axle, two wrenching pieces, a pole and two pressing pieces, wherein the axle is axially attached to a case of the hole-punching unit, with one end of the axle axially connecting to a control knob, each wrenching piece connecting to the axle near its end, the pressing piece having a spring coil disposed at its middle and pivotally connected to the pole, and the pressing piece having a pair of lapping portions extending from a first side of the spring coil, and a pair of suppressing portions extending from a second side of the spring coil, the lapping portions leaning against an upper edge of the wrenching piece for the control knob to drive the wrenching piece to move synchronously, so as to let the suppressing portions to press the hole-punching assembly and to fasten the hole-punching assembly.

    • The invention contemplates digit-marking apparatus for characterizing a read-out surface with n-digit binary data for each of m decimal digits, wherein m digit-marking elements are employed in a cycle of n indexed displacements of the marking elements and read-out surface with respect to each other. The invention is described in connection with card-punching of binary-coded data, using a four-station two-dimensional index pattern, thus establishing for each of the several decimal digits a four-bit binary-code punch pattern.

    • A punching machine for the cards or paper bands used in jacquards, dobbies and the like, comprises horizontal punches individually actuated by pusher means through presser rods which may be selectively brought to an ineffective oblique position. Each presser rod is attached to a needle itself attached by its upper end to a vertical rod. All these vertical rods are alternately raised and permitted to return downwardly so as to reciprocate in front of individual electromagnets which are selectively energized to retain some of the said vertical rods at their raised position. The vertical rods are disposed in successive longitudinal rows and the electromagnets are arranged in corresponding superposed horizontal elongated banks, the vertical rods of each row terminating upwardly short of the next bank of electromagnets in order not to interfere with them. The electromagnets are of the U-shaped type with the poles one above the other at a quite short distance from the rods, in order that each rod may be attracted and retained frictionally by its corresponding electromagnet.
