    • An apparatus and method for rotating OSD fonts are disclosed. The OSD rotation device including a central processing unit, font addresses generator, memory, a font ROM, a decoder, a shift register, a output controller and output circuits, a synchronization signal generator, and a display device. In a manner, the OSD fonts corresponding to the OSD font addresses are produced. Next, the OSD fonts is read and delivered to the decoder. Further, the decoder performs a decoding process for the OSD fonts to form a plurality of rotated fonts. The OSD message, including the rotated fonts, is displayed on a display device so that the video display is synchronized with the OSD message.

    • The invention provides interactive streaming mixed media production. A mixed media content creation tool includes a resource-computation element that computes the likely resource load to be imposed on a server, communication link, and client device, when sent by the server to the client and presented to a user at the client. The resource-computation element is responsive to amounts of communication bandwidth available using the communication link, presentation buffer space and computing resources available at the client, and other measures of resource load. The resource-computation element attempts to optimize resource usage by the mixed media content. The system also includes a presentation element that responds to the resource-computation element, and to user requests, and interactively presents measures of projected resource usage by the mixed media content, comparisons of that projected resource usage with available resources, and comparisons of that projected resource usage before and after optimization.

    • An apparatus and method for automatically setting the height of an on-screen display (OSD) font in a display device which supports a multi-resolution are provided. The apparatus for controlling the OSD font height includes a horizontal line number generator and a font height generator. The horizontal line number generator generates information on the number of horizontal lines of a display region of the display device. The font height generator receives a predetermined font height reference value and the horizontal line number information, obtains automatic font height, and generates the automatic font height. The font height reference number is preferably the number of OSD fonts to be displayed in a vertical direction in the display region. The method for controlling OSD font height includes setting a predetermined font height reference value, obtaining information on the number of horizontal lines of a display region of the display device, and obtaining automatic font height using the horizontal line number information and the font height reference value. According to the invention, the vertical size of the font of the OSD can be automatically maintained to be uniform regardless of the resolution in the display device having the multi-resolution.

The invention provides for user manipulation of 3-D objects in a simulation where conflicting goals may be simultaneously applied to the objects and resolved. Each user is treated as an entity in the environment, with a positional presence. The positional presence of a user is represented by a user object displayed in the simulation. The invention provides a unique interface to a real-time simulation that is easy to use, by virtue of mapping a subset of the inputs to actions consistent with the expectation of the user actually being physically present within the environment. Moreover, the invention can be implemented on a wide range of low cost computing systems, as the requirements are for a minimum of 2-D input and output.

    • An emboldened font is simulated from a regular font by moving the outline that describes the font along a vector normal to the direction of the outline a predetermined distance. A new emboldened location is calculated for each control point that defines the font outline. The new location for each control point is determined by calculating a vector perpendicular to the outline at the location of the control point. The control point is then moved a predetermined distance along the perpendicular vector. The predetermined distance controls how much emboldening is applied to the font. The greater the predetermined distance, the more emboldened the font will appear. By moving all of the control points that define a font outline a predetermined distance along a vector perpendicular to the outline, a new outline is created that defines the emboldened version of the font.
