    • The invention relates to a method and system for individually exercising one or more parameters of hand movement such as range, speed, fractionation and strength in a virtual reality environment and for providing performance-based interaction with the user to increase user motivation while exercising. The present invention can be used for rehabilitation of neuromotor disorders, such as a stroke. A first input device senses position of digits of the hand of the user while the user is performing an exercise by interacting with a virtual image. A second input device provides force feedback to the user and measures position of the digits of the hand while the user is performing an exercise by interacting with a virtual image. The virtual images are updated based on targets determined for the user's performance in order to provide harder or easier exercises.

    • An enhanced deck for generating live fire simulations of fuel spill and chemical fires and the like, and includes a pit for receiving a volume of fluid, such as water, within which is mounted a fuel burner array. Gaseous or liquid fuel is delivered to the burner assembly under pressure, resulting in the expulsion of fuel into the liquid, where the fuel transforms into vapor and rises to the surface of the pit. A support surface structure is provided at the top of the pit flush to the ground level to permit vehicle movement. The fuel vapor is ignited at the support surface to generate a training fire.

    • Disclosed is a system and method of assessing cognitive and metacognitive skills and leadership abilities used in the creative problem solving process central to leader effectiveness. The system and method provide a new model of leader performance and a validated computer based assessment battery. The system and method present scripted scenarios configured to activate a problem solving process resulting in the construction of a mental representation of the problem and requiring the selection of a set of alternative responses. The system and method define and operationalize six leadership abilities in terms of the requisite cognitive and metacognitive skills. A computerized interactive assessment battery measures these abilities by presenting six scenarios describing situations and events requiring large scale organizational interventions that require the use of these leadership abilities. The system and method measures these abilities by requiring the examinee to select, prioritize, and modify his response set in accordance with continuously updated information provided. The system and method quantify the abilities measured in terms of ability profiles and generate and display immediate feedback to the examinee in terms of normative profiles based on the scores. The assessment data is stored on a removable disk or web server for use in developing an individually tailored leadership training program based on the specific leadership ability profile identified by the use of the systems and methods leadership model.

    • A method for psychometric assessment testing of both cognitive and motor ability to assimilate and follow instructions. The assessment method tasks a subject to assemble a subset of inter-fitting parts from a collection of parts in a specific manner as defined by an instruction set presented to the subject, and with the help of specific reference cues. A number of inter-fitting parts are placed before a subject, each bearing various labels for guiding assembly. Some of the parts are functionally similar except in dimension. Next, the subject is given a menu of the parts bearing not-to-scale illustrations of all the parts (labels omitted), and names for the respective parts. Next, the subject is given a ruler, and then a set of assembly instructions including a set of written directions for assembling a subset of the parts in a pre-selected manner by reference to part name, dimensions, and labeled indicia. The subject is instructed to begin, and an administrator times assembly. After completion, the administrator assesses the subject's aptitude by awarding points for properly assembling the subset of parts in the instructed manner, for steps taken by the subject during assembly, and for time to completion, the assessment thereby providing a measure of both cognitive ability and dexterity. The minimalistic content and sparse manner of delivering the instructions exercises the subject's ability to assimilate instructions on their own, as well as assimilating the apparent reference cues that he or she might need, thereby allowing full assessment of autonomy and self-orientation.
