    • A collapsible pointing stick structure is mounted on the top side of the keyboard of a notebook computer and is manually pivotable, about a selected axis parallel to the top side of the keyboard, to controllably reposition a cursor being displayed on the lid portion of the computer. When the computer lid is opened, the top end of the pointing stick structure projects upwardly beyond the top sides of the keyboard key cap members to facilitate its manual engagement and manipulation by the user of the computer. However, in response to closing of the computer lid, the top end of the pointing stick structure is automatically collapsed to an elevation generally aligned with the top sides of the key cap members. Due to the collapsible operation of the pointing stick structure its incorporation into the computer does not require that the vertical thickness of the closed computer be increased. A mechanism prevents the pointing stick structure from collapsing when the lid portion is open.

    • An actuating device for the mechanical positive actuation of a pressure-responsive switch utilizes a pivotably movable spring-loaded switch lever which, when activated by a control component movable in relation to the switch, is pivotable out of a lift-off position separate from the switch into a switch-triggering position bearing on the switch which is thereafter maintained in the bearing position. The switch lever is motionally coupled to the control component by spring force until the switch-triggering position is reached. It is possible to trigger the switch at an exact point, the switch lever is made bend-resistant and is pivotable about a joint and spring-loaded in the direction of its switch-triggering actuating advance. Since the switch lever is maintained in its switch-triggering position by the spring force, the control component can be moved further, uncoupled from the switch lever, after the latter has reached the switch-triggering position and moved through an additional angle to effect an additional mechanical function.

    • A pivotal hookswitch mechanism which includes a transverse camshaft supported between actuating arms of a cradle lever. The camshaft carries a plurality of transversely spaced contact spring operating cams, each cam positioned between respective contact springs of a spring pair. The camshaft is carried with its transverse ends within bearing openings of an enclosing housing, the housing enclosing the cams and contact springs. The contact springs are leaf springs resting in two parallel arrays of slots in the housing, the springs being identical. The housing is constructed of two identical shell members each forming a half of the housing, with one half being inverted relative to the other to form the central cavity for the operating components of the mechanism. The housing provides a dust-tight enclosure for the contact springs and cams with entry openings into the housing cavity filled, the enclosure structure serving as a pivot axis and pintle for the actuating lever.
