    • A secondary battery comprises a case having first and second flat end portions. A generator unit is installed in the case. The generator unit includes a plurality of positive and negative electrode plates which are alternatively put on one another placing therebetween separator plates. Positive and negative flat terminals are respectively held by the first and second end portions of the case. Each of the flat terminals includes an inside part exposed to an interior of the case and connected to corresponding ones of the positive and negative electrode plates, a middle part actually held by corresponding one of the first and second flat end portions of the case and an outside part exposed to the outside of the case. A reinforcing structure is associated with the first and second flat end portions of the case to assure and reinforce the holding of the middle part of each flat terminal by corresponding one of the first and second flat end portions of the case.

    • The present invention provides a closed type battery that is free from any sealing defects due to a sag of caulking with time, etc. The closed type battery is constructed of a monolithic electrode terminal that comprises an insulating member for covering the inner surface of a through-hole formed through a metal sheet for sealing up an opening of a battery can and both surfaces of the metal sheet around the through-hole, and an electrode-drawing sheet having a synthetic resin layer formed on one surface thereof, which sheet is located on the surface of the insulating member positioned on the outer surface of the battery while the synthetic resin layer comes in contact therewith, wherein the electrode-drawing sheet and the insulating member are integrated together by means of an electrode-leading pin passed through a through-hole in the electrode-drawing sheet.

    • A secondary battery includes: a battery unit in which a cathode plate, a separator, and an anode plate are sequentially disposed upon one another and wound together; a can provided as a housing for the battery unit, and into which an electrolyte is injected; a cap assembly bound to an upper portion of the can; and a thermal protector installed in the can for electrically connecting an electrode lead drawn from the battery unit to an electrode terminal via the cap assembly, and for cutting off current flow when the battery unit is overcharged. When the inner temperature of the battery rises due to overcharging, the thermal protector installed in the can accurately detects the increase in temperature, and cuts off current flow, thereby preventing thermal runaway and improving reliability of the secondary battery.

    • A battery terminal is configured to be secured to a battery case and includes a terminal assembly, and a ring. The terminal assembly includes an insert having a threaded bore, and an outer metal portion having a base with an annular flange configured to engage the inner surface of the case. The terminal further includes an anti-turn system with a first set of angularly-spaced bosses with intervening slots formed on a boss on the case, a second set of angularly-spaced bosses with intervening slots on a first side of the ring facing the case, which are complementary to the first set to form interlocking features. A set of recesses on the opposite side of the ring is configured to receive spun-over lead material during final finishing to form another pair of interlocking features. The exterior spun battery terminal eliminates corrosion that would otherwise occur due to cold worked lead contacting acid.
