    • An environmentally sealed splice kit for splicing together a shielded cable which is fully immersion protected and which is installed using only hand tool without using heat generating sources. The splice kit has a pair of crimp sleeves which are coupled to a separate wire braided end of the shielded cable. A jumper wire is coupled to each crimp sleeve for providing electrical continuity between each wire braided end of the shielded cable. A crimp ferrule is coupled to each wire braided end of the shielded cable for holding and connecting each crimp sleeve to each wire braided end of the shielded cable. Conductor splices are used for splicing together each center conductor of the shielded cable to be spliced together. A dielectric spacer is used for separating and providing an isolating medium between each center conductor to be spliced together and the jumper cable. A shield seal sleeve is placed around the shielded wire and positioned over the dielectric spacer for providing a sealing boot with shielding capabilities for the spliced shielded cable. A pair of end caps are coupled to each end of the shield seal sleeve and an adhesive sealant is placed inside each end cap for environmentally sealing the spliced shielded cable.

    • A connector for connecting an end of a first elongate electrical heating cable to an end of a first elongate electrical component such as another heating cable or a power cable. The connector includes first and second shell members which can be in a mated or demated configuration and which, when mated, form a shell having a first inlet port for the first heating cable and a second inlet port for the first electrical component. In addition, the connector includes an element for connecting electrodes of the first heating cable to elongate members of the first electrical component and a sealing assembly for holding the first heating cable in position in the first inlet port. The sealing assembly includes a hollow cylindrical ring from which gripping elements in the form of fingers extend perpendicular to the plane of the ring, a nut for making connection to the first inlet port, and a grommet which is held by the fingers and which grips the first heating cable. Also described is a connector which comprises a mirror which is inserted in a connection module containing an element for connection, the mirror being positioned so that the element for connection can be observed from outside the module. The mirror can be used as a visual indicator allowing the installer to determine when the elongate electrical component or heating cable is correctly positioned for connection.

    • A method for electromagnetically shielding the end of a rigid cable (10) containing a large number of conductors to provide increased bending flexibility is disclosed along with a ground strap assembly (24). Ground strap assembly (24) is designed to shield a cable (10) that consists of a plurality of insulated conductors (18) surrounded by one or more conducting shields (14) (16) and outer insulating sheath (12). A portion of the outer insulating sheath (12) is removed to expose a protruding portion of conducting shield (14). The protruding portion of conducting shield (14) is folded back along a remaining portion of outer insulating sheath (12) thereby exposing the ends of the conductors. Ground strap assembly (24) comprises a braided conducting ground strap (26) that has a cable end portion (32) extending to a central portion (34). Central portion (34) extends to grounding portion (36). The cable end portion (32) is coupled to the protruding portion of the conducting shield (14) of cable (10) that has been folded back. Such coupling shields a portion of the exposed ends of the conductors (18). The central portion (34) of ground strap (26) has an exit opening to allow the exposed conductors (18) to exit from the ground strap (26) thereby allowing the conductors (18) to be flexibly maneuvered and attached to one or more connection points in an electronic device. A ground strap terminal (28) is coupled to the grounding portion (36) of ground strap (26) allowing the ground strap (26) to be attached to ground, thereby shielding the end of the cable from electromagnetic interference.

    • An adapter for converting a non-repairable electrical cable connection into one which is repairable. The cable connection is the type in which a wire bundle is enclosed within a braided shield which is permanently terminated to a backshell, the backshell being threadedly secured by a coupling nut to a connector to which the wire bundle is terminated. The adapter comprises a pair of semi-circular adapter sections which combine to form a cylindrical adapter which fits around an unshielded portion of the wire bundle between the backshell and connector. The adapter has external threading at one end for connection to the backshell. A second coupling nut slidably mounted around the adapter connects the opposite end of the adapter to the connector. The second coupling nut is removable from around the adapter to permit the adapter sections to be separated and removed from around the unshielded portion of the wire bundle. This permits repair of the bundle and its terminations to the connector without distrubing the shielding or shielding termination.
