    • According to the voltage VU that occurs at one end of at least one of multiple coils of a fan motor, a back electromotive force detection circuit generates a detection signal BEMFU asserted in a cyclic manner when a fan motor is stably rotating. A lock protection circuit detects a lock state of the fan motor rotor. A period detection unit measures the detection signal BEMFU period. A synchronization pulse generating circuit generates a synchronization pulse having a period that is 1/N (N represents an integer of 2 or more) of that of the detection signal BEMFU measured in a previous cycle. A lock judgment unit counts the synchronization pulse in increments of cycles of the detection signal BEMFU. When the count value exceeds a predetermined threshold value M (M represents an integer of 2 or more) which is greater than N, the lock mode judgment signal is asserted.

    • An outer-rotor variable-speed motor, to which single-phase AC power is applied and on which a rotor is provided outside a stator, comprises first and second main windings provided on a stator of the motor to form a plurality of poles, a frequency detector for detecting the frequency of AC power applied to the motor, and a relay for connecting the first and second main windings in series if the detected frequency is 60 Hz and connecting the first and second main windings in parallel if the detected frequency is 50 Hz. The speed of the motor is kept constant even when power at different frequencies is applied, so that it is possible to reduce the manufacturing cost of the motor and reduce the power consumption, and also to reduce electromagnetic noise from the motor.

    • A motor speed controller for use with dc motors, such as found in model (slot) cars, is provided by a plurality of pairs of oppositely-poled voltage-sensitive threshold conduction devices which are selectively connected so as to be controllably inserted between a source of operating voltage and the dc motor. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the voltage-sensitive threshold conduction devices advantageously comprise a series connection of diode bridges which are sequentially included in the energizing path of the motor.Furthermore, the controller provides a speed sensitive brake function by controllably connecting at least one voltage-sensitive threshold conduction device across the windings of the dc motor. When so connected, this allows the voltage generated by the spinning motor to cause the voltage-sensitive threshold conduction device to be conductive until the motor speed slows to the point that the generated voltage no longer causes the device to conduct. Thereafter, the motor is effectively "open circuited" and therefore allowed to rotate freely.

    • An improved triggering switch for DC motors having a base support, a pressing member operatively mounted over the base support, a coupling stand with an open section installed in an upper portion of the base support, a set of motor terminals and power source terminals combined with a contact shaft respectively disposed in the open section of the coupling stand, and a selection button adjustably installed at the base support and movably connected to the contact shaft. The improvement includes a braking member having an elongated terminal connected to a negative terminal of the motor terminals and a C-shaped contact portion formed at a rear end thereof fixedly disposed around the motor and the power source terminals in the open section of the coupling stand with the C-shaped contact portion being positioned in line with a rear end of a positive terminal of the motor terminals; thereby, when the contact shaft is moved back with the power source being cut off, the C-shaped contact portion and the positive terminal of the motor terminals will be connected by the contact shaft to short-circuit the motor and immediately stop it.
