    • A receiver uses a local oscillator to receive data transmitted via a combination of radio frequency signals using carrier aggregation. Each radio frequency signal occupies a respective radio frequency band and the radio frequency hands are arranged in two groups, a first group and a second group, separated in frequency by a first frequency region, each of the groups including one or more radio frequency bands and the first group occupying a wider frequency region than the second group. The radio frequency signals are processed using the local oscillator by setting the local oscillator, during the processing, to a frequency that is offset from the centre of a band defined by outer edges of the frequency regions occupied by the two groups.

    • A low jitter and wide-range frequency synthesizer for low voltage operation includes a detector to generate a detection signal based on a logic level difference between an input signal and a feedback signal, a charge pump to generate a control signal based on the detection signal, a filter to generate a tuning signal based on the control signal, a bias circuit to generate a first bias signal and a second bias signal based on the tuning signal, a controllable oscillator to generate a differential output signal based on the first and the second bias signals, a differential to single ended converter to convert the differential output signal into an output signal, and a programmable frequency divider to generate the feedback signal based on the output signal.

    • A selectable local oscillator provides an output frequency signal having a selectable frequency within a desired output frequency range. The selectable local oscillator comprises first, second and third signal generators configured to provide first, second and third frequency signals having frequencies in first, second and third input frequency ranges. A first mixer provides a first mixed product signal having an upper sideband and a lower sideband. A frequency selector selects one of the upper and lower sidebands of the first mixed product signal. A second mixer provides a second mixed product signal having an upper sideband and a lower sideband. An output stage selects at least one of the upper and lower sidebands of the second mixed product signal as the output frequency signal.

    • A radio device requires a tunable transceiver such that the transceiver can be accurately set to a desired frequency. When a signal with known frequency accuracy is being received, an offset detector can determine the frequency offset generated by the transceiver due to improper tuning. An automatic frequency control (AFC) system (100) is comprised of a tunable transceiver, an adaptive detector (102) for comparing an incoming sample from the tunable transceiver to an adaptive maximum deviation threshold for determining if a sample from the tunable transceiver should be used for the direct current (DC) component of the AFC, an offset detector (103) and an AFC control processor (105) for utilizing information from the offset detector to reduce the inaccuracy in frequency by tuning the transceiver towards the received signal frequency. The AFC control processor (105) utilizes one of more threshold levels for defining a maximum correction threshold (311) based upon the desired maximum offset correction.
