In one embodiment, the out-of-band (OOB) signaling functionality normally provided in each of a set-top-box (STB) and digital video recorder (DVR) are unified into a common OOB (e.g., DOCSIS) capable premises gateway device, thereby obviating OOB tuners and related components from each device. In another variant, the premises gateway is adapted for all-IP operation, such as for use with IP-based computers and IP set-top boxes, etc. Fully unified variants are also disclosed, wherein the DVR and/or STB functions are physically integrated within the premises gateway.

摘要： Real-time latency of audio/video streams is identified. Signatures of a reference audio/video stream and signatures of a test audio/video stream are buffered. A needle is constructed as a vector including a set of signatures of the reference audio/video stream. Correlations of the needle to successive vectors of sets of signatures of the test audio/video stream are computed using a correlation function that calculates relatedness of the needle vector to each of the successive vectors of the test audio/video stream. A synchronization offset is identified between the test stream and the reference stream according to a maximum correlation point of the correlations of the needle to the successive sets of signatures of the test audio/video stream. The reference audio/video stream and the test audio/video stream are aligned according to the synchronization offset.

摘要： A main stream contains successive content elements of video and/or audio information that encode video and/or audio information at a first data rate. A computation circuit (144) computes main fingerprints from the successive content elements. A reference stream is received having a second data rate lower than the first data rate. The reference stream defines a sequence of the reference fingerprints. A comparator unit (144) compares the main fingerprints with the reference fingerprints. The main stream is monitored for the presence of inserted content elements between original content elements, where the original content elements have main fingerprints that match successive reference fingerprints and the inserted content elements have main fingerprints that do not match reference fingerprints. Rendering of inserted content elements to be skipped. In an embodiment when more than one content element matches only one is rendered. In another embodiment matching is used to control zapping to or from the main stream. In another embodiment matching is used to control linking of separately received mark-up information such as subtitles to points in the main stream.

摘要： An example method includes detecting over a particular time-period and at a periodic interval, match data indicating whether reference fingerprints representing content transmitted by a non-local content-distribution system on a particular channel matches query fingerprints representing content received by a content-presentation device on the particular channel. The method also includes based on the match data, identifying three time-periods within the particular time-period, the middle of which being a time-period (i) in which there is a threshold consistent lack of matching for a threshold duration and (ii) that corresponds to a detected portion of the received content that serves as a placeholder for local content to be inserted by a local content-distribution system. The method also includes based on the three identified time-periods, detecting, that the local content-distribution system inserted local content into the content received on the particular channel in connection with the detected portion, and responsively performing an action.

摘要： A predictive tuning system is disclosed in order to reduce the tuning channel delay time in a cable TV architecture. The system comprises a set-top box (STB) configured to instantiate a given number of video decoding pipelines allowing for start broadcasting a particular set of channels which include a sub-set of pre-define channels, such as the antecessor and predecessor channels which are normally pre-tuned, and other sub-set of channels chosen using a predictive algorithm. This algorithm runs locally at the user interface level of the STB suggesting the more likely channels to be watched by the user according to his past behavior according to a specific time slot of a day.

The apparatus further includes an overlap/add-combiner for combining the overlapping time-domain data blocks to obtain a decoded data segment of the time-domain data stream.

摘要： In one embodiment, a system for modifying a video stream includes a video player receiving a video stream encoded as a series of non-predictive video frames and predictive video frames. The video player decodes the frames and is repositioned at a playback time from a current time to a different time in the video stream. In one embodiment, the video player uses a time reference table to identify a position in a variant of the video stream corresponding to the different time that is encoded as a non-predictive video frame. The video player receives the variant of the video stream in response to identifying the position. In another embodiment, a system for modifying a video stream includes a video player receiving a video stream encoded as a series of non-predictive video frames and predictive video frames. The video player decodes the frame of the video stream and provides the decoded video stream to a display. The video player repositions a playback time from a current time to a different time in the video stream. The different time is provided to a video encoder of the video stream which encodes the video stream based upon the different time, where a frame corresponding to the different time is encoded as a non-predictive video frame.
