    • A sampling phase of digital data is converted with having a phase stabilization and a phase alignment. In a converting circuit for converting first digital data synchronized with a fist clock into second digital data synchronized with a second clock not synchronized with the first clock, there are provided; a dividing circuit for dividing 1 (one) time period of the first clock into N time periods ("N" being larger than, or equal to 2); a coefficient setting circuit for setting first and second interpolation coefficients with respect to each of the divided time periods; a data producing circuit for producing the second digital data from data within a certain clock period and data within another clock period subsequent to the certain clock period among the first digital data by using the first and second interpolation coefficients in the divided period where the second clock is located, among the first and second interpolation coefficients set for each of the divided periods.

    • In a chrominance signal processing apparatus for processing a sampled and digitized signal, when a first carrier chrominance signal is frequency-converted to a second carrier chrominance signal whose carrier angular frequency is a second reference angular frequency by use of a frequency converting signal, the present invention provides an arrangement such that: a variation component of a carrier signal frequency from a first reference angular frequency signal which the first carrier chrominance signal has, namely, an angular frequency difference signal is derived by an APC circuit from the first and second reference angular frequency signals, angular frequency difference signal, and further various kinds of angular frequency signals and phase signals which give necessary functions and performances as a chrominance signal processing circuit are added or subtracted in the states of the angular frequency signals and phase signals thereby simplifying the process for obtaining the above frequency converting signal; and thereby reducing the number of circuit elements and the scale in case of realizing this by a digital circuit. In addition, the invention enables the frequency variation which the first carrier chrominance signal has to be eliminated in a wide frequency range due to its performance, thereby making it possible to perform accurate frequency conversion.

    • A video disc player includes a phase locked loop (PLL) heterodyne converter for providing frequency translation and time base correction of the chrominance component of a composite video signal recovered when a disc is played. Residual time base errors due to the finite loop gain of the PLL are minimized by means of a phase modulator controlled by the PLL error signal. In one illustrative embodiment, the phase modulator is coupled so as to vary the phase of the translated chrominance output signal. In another embodiment, it is coupled to vary the phase of a demodulation carrier wave supplied to a chroma demodulator whereby, in either case, chroma streaking effects due to finite gain limitations of the PLL are minimized with no increase in loop gain thereby avoiding potential loop instabilities.

    • Apparatus for use with a video signal playback system of the type which reproduces a previously recorded composite color video signal wherein time-base errors appear in the luminance component of that video signal. The apparatus modifies the chrominance component of the composite video signal so as to have time-base errors in correspondence with the errors in the luminance component. The luminance and chrominance components are separated from the composite color video signal; and a local subcarrier reference signal is generated to have the time-base errors which are present in the luminance component. This local subcarrier reference signal is essentially substituted for the subcarrier of the reproduced chrominance component, thereby imparting such time-base errors into the chrominance component. At least the chrominance component is delayed by an amount equal to a horizontal line interval so as to equalize the time-base errors which have been imparted into the chrominance component with those time-base errors which are contained in the reproduced luminance component. The delayed luminance component and the substituted-subcarrier chrominance component are combined so as to reform the composite color video signal.

    • An encoder separates luminance and chrominance signal components of a composite video signal. The frame-to-frame changes in the luminance signal are detected, and a motion signal is derived therefrom. The higher frequency portion of the luminance signal is adaptively de-emphasized in amplitude and folded into the spectrum of the lower frequency portion of the luminance signal, to generate a folded-spectrum luminance signal for modulating the frequency of a luma carrier. In a combined signal, suitable for magnetic recording in accordance with a modified VHS standard, the chrominance signal is translated in frequency to generate a color-under signal in a frequency band below that occupied by the FM luma carrier. The de-emphasized higher frequency portion of the luminance signal, as folded into its lower frequency portion, and encoding of the motion signal onto vacant portions of the frequency band below that occupied by the FM luma carrier in such a magnetic recording facilitate its being compatibly reproduced by conventional VHS reproduction devices. In a wideband reproduction device a decoder demodulates the folded-spectrum luminance signal from the FM luma carrier, unfolds the lumininance signal, and reemphasizes the high frequencies of the unfolded luminance signal. The color-under signal is translated in frequency to regenerate chrominance signal combined with the unfolded luminance signal with its high frequencies re-emphasized to their original amplitude, regenerating a composite signal descriptive of a full bandwidth image. The motion signal is utilized in the encoder for motion-adaptively pre-filtering the input luminance and is recovered in the decoder for motion-adaptively post-filtering the unfolded luminance.
