    • An induction heating furnace is disclosed comprising an induction coil assembly and a ladle having a metallic shell that supports a crucible holding metal to be heated by the furnace. The ladle is readily separated from the induction coil assembly so that the heated metal may be conveniently and reliably moved among operational stations. The induction coil assembly has a preselected length which is less than the length of the shell. The induction coil assembly surrounds, but does not touch the shell and generates an electromagnetic induction field. The induction coil assembly comprises a coil, upper and lower yokes and an intermediate yoke coextensive with the coil. The upper and lower yokes are separated from each other and electromagnetically coupled together by the intermediate yoke. The upper, lower and intermediate yokes each comprise stacked laminates formed of sheets of ferrous material.

    • A method for continuously pouring molten metal in an initially substantially unfilled tundish having a channel-type inductor having a channel opening into the bottom portion of the tundish, is done by starting the pourings and the continuous sequential steps of applying power to the inductor when its channel is first covered by the poured metal to form a melt level and the static pressure of the metal is low and while increasing the power rapidly so as to cause incipient pinching in the channel and then momentarily rapidly reducing the power so as to prevent pinching; as the metal level further increases so that the metal's static pressure further increases, again increasing the power rapidly so as to again cause incipient pinching in the channel and then again momentarily rapidly reducing the power so as to prevent pinching; and continuing these sequential steps until the tundish is filled.

    • The invention relates to a channel type induction furnace having at least one inductor and closed channels, including side channels, interconnected at the bottom, possibly via a bottom channel joining said channels, and possibly also a central channel extending between the hearth and the bottom channel, especially designed for aluminum, copper or other non-ferrous metals or non-ferrous alloys.
