摘要： An electrolyte composition can be capable of becoming molten when heated sufficiently. The electrolyte can include at least one lithium halide salt; and at least one lithium non-halide salt combined with the at least one lithium halide salt so as to form an electrolyte composition capable of becoming molten when above a melting point about 350° C. A lithium halide salt includes a halide selected from F and Cl. A first lithium non-halide salt can be selected from the group consisting of LiVO3, Li2SO4, LiNO3, and Li2MoO4. A thermal battery can include the electrolyte composition, such as in the cathode, anode, and/or separator region therebetween. The battery can discharge electricity by having the electrolyte composition at a temperature so as to be a molten electrolyte.

摘要： A nanofluid contact potential difference cell comprises a cathode with a lower work function and an anode with a higher work function separated by a nanometer-scale spaced inter-electrode gap containing a nanofluid with intermediate work function nanoparticle clusters. The cathode comprises a refractory layer and a thin film of electrosprayed dipole nanoparticle clusters partially covering a surface of the refractory layer. A thermal power source, placed in good thermal contact with the cathode, drives an electrical current through an electrical circuit connecting the cathode and anode with an external electrical load in between. A switch is configured to intermittently connect the anode and the cathode to maintain non-equilibrium between a first current from the cathode to the anode and a second current from the anode to the cathode.

摘要： An electrochemical reactor includes positive and negative electrodes. A conductive and/or dielectric liquid is provided between the positive and negative electrodes. A first isolation member provided on the positive electrode isolates the positive electrode from the liquid, and a second isolation member provided on the negative electrode isolates the negative electrode from the liquid. The first and second isolation member each includes a liquid-repellent porous membrane. The reactor further includes a pressure-applying member which pressurizes the liquid to fill the pores of the first and second liquid-repellent porous membranes with the liquid, thereby causing an electrochemical reaction involving the positive and negative electrodes.

摘要： The present invention relates to compositions comprising ionic compounds surrounded by organic matrices, and methods for producing such compositions. In various embodiments, the compositions of the present invention are co-crystals of an organic compound and a salt. The organic compound forms matrices with channel structures, wherein the organic matrices interact relatively poorly with the salt, thus allowing for excellent ion mobility through the channel structures. In one embodiment, the compositions are soft-solid electrolytes, comprising ions such as lithium or sodium, which can be used in batteries or other electrochemical devices. The electrolyte compositions of the present invention exhibit relatively high ionic conductivities with a negligible activation barrier for ion migration, i.e., the compositions exhibit barrierless ion conduction. In addition, the compositions exhibit good conductivities at very low temperatures, making them useful in a variety of low temperature applications. In one embodiment, the present invention further relates to free-standing films comprising the co-crystals of the present invention, and methods for preparing such films.

摘要： An energy storage system is disclosed. The energy storage system comprises an energy storage device configured to operate above ambient temperature, and a thermal insulator at least partially surrounding the energy storage device, wherein heat losses from one or more other devices are received within the thermal insulator to provide heat energy to the energy storage device. Utilizing heat losses from one or more other devices, such as associated electronic components, enables the energy storage device to be maintained at its elevated operational temperature for longer providing extended battery life. In the application of wireline logging, this results in more data log available per trip in a well.
