    • The method for obtaining the quality signal includes multiplying a digital multiplex signal (MPX) by respective reference carrier signals mutually phase shifted by 90.degree. to each other, but otherwise equal, to form a pair of mixed signals (Imr1,Imr2); multiplying the mixed signals (Imr1, Imr2) by respective correction signals (G38c,G38s) to form a pair of corrected mixed signal (Ims1,Ims2); separately multiplying the digital multiplex signal (MPX) by each of two reference pilot signals mutually shifted in phase by 90.degree. relative to each other to form respective derived signals useful for obtaining said correction signals (G38c,G38s); adding said corrected mixed signals (Ims1,Ims2) to each other; multiplying said mixed signals (Imr1,Imr2) by the respective correction signals (G38s,G38c) to form a pair of product signals; subtracting these product signals from each other to form a subtraction result and low-pass filtering the subtraction result to obtain a low-pass-filtered resultant signal from which the quality signal is derived.

    • In a demodulator comprising an indicator (31) for indicating either stereo reception or monaural reception, an indicator circuit (30) is used to cancel a pilot signal included in a stereophonic signal and to produce a drive signal for driving the indicator. The indicator circuit comprises a negative feedback loop formed by an adder circuit (41), a phase detector (43), and a cancellation circuit (45). The cancellation circuit supplies the indicator and the adder circuit with the drive signal and a cancelling signal synchronized with and approximate to the pilot signal, respectively. The adder circuit substracts the cancelling signal from the pilot signal to deliver an intermediate signal to a multiplex decoder and to the cancellation circuit through the phase detector. The cancellation circuit comprises a wave generator for generating a pair of currents proportional to an amplitude of the pilot signal and a level adjusting circuit for converting one of the currents into the cancelling signal. The other current is converted into the drive signal.

    • A receiver for selectively receiving either an FM-FM type television sound multiplex broadcasting or an FM-AM type FM stereo multiplex broadcasting includes a PLL (phase-locked loop) circuit for forming a 38 kHz switching carrier for demodulating an FM stereo multiplex signal during reception of the FM stereo multiplex broadcasting, which PLL circuit is concurrently used to attain various purposes in receiving the television sound multiplex broadcasting. In a first embodiment, the PLL circuit is used for FM-demodulating a subchannel signal during reception of the television sound multiplex broadcasting. In a second embodiment, the PLL circuit is used to detect a state that the television sound multiplex broadcasting wave is received during reception of the television sound broadcasting. In a third embodiment, the PLL circuit is used to detect whether the television sound multiplex broadcasting being received is a stereo broadcasting or a dual sound broadcasting.

    • A stereo demodulator system includes first and second differential amplifiers differentially responding to a first form of a stereo signal and at least a pair of differentially connected transistors serially connected to the output circuit of the first differential amplifier and responding to a second signal related to the first signal. A current mirror circuit is provided from the output circuit of the second differential amplifier to the pair of differentially connected transistors to produce a mixed output signal at the output terminal of the pair of transistors to separate the stereo signal into component signals. An offset current compensator is provided to avoid producing an offset current in the mixed output signal.

    • A circuit for demodulating a composite stereo signal of the type including a main-channel (L+R) signal and a sub-channel (L-R) signal to derive therefrom individual channel information signals L and R, respectively. A switching circuit of the balanced-modulator type is supplied with the composite stereo signal at one set of input terminals and with a switching signal whose frequency is equal to the sub-carrier onto which the sub-channel (L-R) signal is modulated, at another set of input terminals. The switching circuit produces oppositely-phased sub-channel signals which are applied to first and second current generators, respectively. An amplifier is supplied with the composite stereo signal to amplify the main-channel (L+R) signal, the amplifier including a channel separation control to adjustably vary the currents flowing through the amplifier so as to correspondingly vary the main-channel (L+R) currents. The main-channel currents produced by the amplifier and the oppositely-phased sub-channel currents produced by the current generators are supplied to respective output terminals whereat they are combined to produce the separate channel information signals L and R with minimum crosstalk.
