    • A machineable envelope assembly (130) includes an envelope (140) and a strip (150) releasably attached to the envelope. The strip extends out from the envelope flap (162) when the strip (150) lies flat relative to the envelope pocket panels (154, 158) to define with the panels a rectangle having a full letter-size paper width. Thus, when the assembly (130) is in a paper tray (114) of a printer or copier (110), the assembly (130) is configured and sized to engage both sides of the paper tray (114), so that the envelope (140) is continually aligned and does not skew during a feeding and printing process in the printer or copier (110). Thereby the address(es) and/or any PC printed postage are printed straight and accurately positioned in the envelope (140). The assemblies (130) can be stacked into printer (110) infeed trays (114) and automatically fed therefrom for mass printings and mailings.

    • A paper feed roller (21) is rotated in a paper feed direction in response to a printer start instruction after a paper feed cassette (40) is loaded in the printer to feed recording paper into the printer. Since the paper feed cassette is inserted in the printer at the paper feed opening side thereof and has no other opening, excellent light-shielding and moisture-proofing properties are ensured for recording paper. The paper feed roller is reversely rotated immediately after power-on, immediately after loading of the paper feed cassette and/or immediately before paper feed start to return the recording paper to a specified paper feed start position, thereby preventing duplicated feeding and jamming of the recording paper. On completion of printing, the paper feed roller is rotated reversely to return half-fed recording paper to the paper feed start position, so that sheets of recording paper are kept in a close contact condition, light-shielded and moisture-proofed.
