    • For operating a video surveillance system (VSS) able to monitor a set of surveillance zones (SZ) by a set of cameras (CAM), an application server (AS) in a telecommunication network (TN) able to communicate with the video surveillance system (VSS) performs the following steps: for each mobile terminal (MT) that has established an emergency call with an emergency call center (ECC) and whose user is witness of an incident, retrieving localization data (LocD) associated with the mobile terminal (MT), determining if said mobile terminal is located in a surveillance zone (SZ), using the retrieved localization data, receiving a message (Mes) sent from the mobile terminal, the message containing current localization data (LocDc) and a direction towards the incident, and if at least two mobile terminals are located in a same surveillance zone (SZ), computing coordinates (Cdl) of the incident, taking into account said current localization data (LocDc) and said directions provided by said at least two mobile terminals, sending an incident message (Mesl) containing the coordinates (Cdl) of the incident to the video surveillance system (VSS) that is able to select at least one camera (CAM) using the coordinates of the incident.

    • A communication system capable of preventing data transmission to a terminal not desired by the user, and setting a redirect destination of data from a terminal desired by the user. A SIP server transmits address information of a first terminal to an external apparatus when the SIP server receives a connection request to the first terminal from the external apparatus. The SIP server determines whether or not to permit a second terminal to be set as a redirect destination of the connection request when it is requested by the user to set the second terminal as the redirect destination, and sets the second terminal as the redirect destination according to the determination. Then, the SIP server transmits address information of the second terminal to the external apparatus when it receives the connection request in a state where the second terminal is set as the redirect destination.

    • A system configured to transmit and receive data signals over a data link in serial fashion using dual phase pulse modulation (DPPM) is described. The data link may be, for example, a one or two wire unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable. An exemplary system includes a configurable interface (301) able to accept parallel data from an external source, such as a microprocessor or an imaging device. The interface (301) is externally programmable for a particular data format. An encoder is coupled to the configurable interface (301) and converts parallel data into serial output data, the serial output data having high and low data pulses with each of the high and low data pulses encoded to have one of 2 M distinct data pulse widths. The system further includes a decoder (303) coupled to the configurable interface (301), which is able to convert the serial input data into parallel data.

    • An apparatus is provided for communicating over a network images captured by a digital camera, such as a digital camera without an on-board network interface. The apparatus includes a housing separate from the digital camera having a processing unit with memory for storage of images, a camera interface card received in a memory card slot of the digital camera, and a cable or wireless connection coupling the camera interface card to the processing unit for data communication. The apparatus emulates a memory card to the digital camera, such that the digital camera’s electronics operate with the memory of the processing unit through the camera interface card, as if such memory was on a memory card located in slot of the digital camera. Images captured by the digital camera are transferred, via the camera interface card and cable, to memory of the processing unit, and the digital camera can access images stored in memory of the processing unit. The processing unit has a wireless data network interface and Ethernet communication interface, whereby captured images stored in memory of the processing unit are queued in real-time for network transfer, and subsequently transferred via one of the network communication interfaces, to a computer system, such as an web site or file server, at a network destination address configurable in the processing unit. Data may be inputted by the user before and/or after image capture for association with images prior to their network transfer. The housing for the processing unit may be shaped like a motor drive unit and attached to the bottom of the camera, or worn by the user of the camera in the form of a belt pack or backpack.
