8 Arrangement for harvesting timber US732119 1976-10-13 US4124047A 1978-11-07 Mirko Dressler; Vaclav Staud; Miroslav Skapa; Miroslav Stejskal
An arrangement for harvesting trees consisting of a portable articulated grapple suspension and an independent cutting and delimbing unit comprising a main frame resting on the ground and a tree-engaging frame pivotally mounted to said main frame. The portable suspension is attached to a motor vehicle and employed to cut down trees and transport them to the independent cutting and delimbing unit. The portable suspension is moved to position the tree in contact with the tree-engaging frame, which pivots on the main frame to align itself with the tree. Thereafter, trimming arms and guide rollers of the tree-engaging frame engage the tree, while the tree is pulled through said frame by the motor vehicle, to delimb the tree. If desired, a cutting saw on the tree-engaging frame may be actuated to cut the tree into one or more sections.

11 Wooden underground mine-timbering for transplanted wood and timbering method JP2004378710 2004-12-28 JP2006180796A 2006-07-13 NAGAMUNE NARIMITSU
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wooden underground mine-timbering for a transplanted tree disappearing with the lapse of time and allowing natural expansion of plant roots without giving a burden to the environment. SOLUTION: This wooden underground mine-timbering has wooden crossarms 5 horizontally crossing each other to become a buried state on the bottom of a plant hole after transplantation, wooden taking pressure boards 6 each fixed to the end of the crossarm and having a horizontal surface, and seizing tools 7 for lashing a rope 3 to be wound around a root ball 2 to the crossarm 5. A thrusting spear 8 thrusting the placed root ball 2 into from a lower part is built if necessary on the cross part of the crossarm 5. In addition, a wooden stand frame 9 to place the root ball 2 on is also attached to the cross part of the crossarm 5. It is possible to eliminate work in the plant hole for lashing the root ball and sufficiently tie the root ball to a stand with manpower above ground. There is no movable part advancing or retreating and the initial stability of the stand is high, thus the posture of a tree is retained from the underground without destroying the appearance of the tree. 12 Standing-stem timber harvesting system US09640200 2000-08-16 US06418989B1 2002-07-16 Philip S. Jarman
A method of standing-stem log harvesting including the steps of preparing a tree for harvesting and then harvesting the same directly from the stump. A tree is prepared for harvesting by topping the tree, cutting the tree part way through the trunk near ground level with two cuts lying in generally the same plane to leave holding wood between the resulting two generally parallel cut edges, and driving support wedges or the like into both said cuts to stabilize the tree trunk. The holding wood and the wedges maintain the trunk stable and upright until it is harvested, but the holding wood is readily frangible in response to a generally horizontal pivoting force applied to the trunk near the top thereof in a direction generally perpendicular to the cut edges. For harvesting, the prepared tree is gripped near the top thereof, and a generally horizontal force is applied to the trunk at the point of gripping in a direction generally perpendicular to the cut edges, thereby breaking the holding wood. The severed log is then hoisted and removed to a selected drop site. Apparatus for practising the standing-stem log harvesting method includes a helicopter and a grapple suspended generally under the center of gravity of the helicopter for gripping and hoisting the tree trunk.

The harvester head includes the main body (1), a telescopic boom (2) moving in relation to the main body, a device for cutting trees (6) and several pairs of grapples (3, 4, 5) for holding the trees, with at least one pair of grapples (5) equipped with articulated grapples (5.3, 5.4).
17 A DEVICE AND A METHOD FOR TIMBER HARVESTING EP01961502.0 2001-08-15 EP1324650A1 2003-07-09 Sorvik, Bengt
A method and a system comprising forest harvesting by means of a harvesting machine (1) comprising a vehicle (2) and a harvesting arrangement (3) mounted thereon, the position of the growth location of a tree being determined in connection with the felling of the tree by the harvesting machine (1), and this position information being stored in a database. In connection with the felling, the end surface or a part of the end surface of a piece of timber (44) obtained from the tree is detected or reproduced by a detection/reproduction device (12). The digital reproduction, or information identifying the piece of timber, obtained via the detection/reproduction device is stored in a database in such a manner that this reproduction/information is associated to the stored position information that indicates the growth location of the tree from which the piece of timber is obtained. The invention also relates to an arrangement (3) for forest harvesting comprising a detection/reproduction device (12).
