PURPOSE: A midi input computer keyboard is provided to enable users to easily access to a midi by enabling the users to perform a midi input through a general computer keyboard instead of a high-priced midi equipment. CONSTITUTION: A computer keyboard(100) is used for commanding a computer to perform a specific operation or inputting basic data. A voice range extension unit(110) overcomes a limited scale of the computer keyboard(100) and extends a range. A mode selection unit(120) sets a general keyboard input mode capable of inputting basic data and a midi input mode capable of inputting midi data. A pitch adjusting unit(130) adjusts a minute pitch in case that voices are inputted from the midi mode. A plurality of hot key button(140) is used as a user-defined key capable of interlocking a specific application program or a specific function according to a user's definition in the general keyboard input mode. A percussion instrument pad(150) can be set as a user-defined key in the general input mode.
2 COMPUTER KEYBOARD-MIDI INTERFACE PCT/AU1998/000475 1998-06-18 WO98058363A1 1998-12-23
A signal conversion method and a device (12) for interfacing a PC keyboard (14) with a MIDI sound-generator such as a sound-card fitted within a computer (20) or a standalone sound generator (22). Interface unit (12) can also take inputs from a MIDI keyboard (18) and a PC joystick (16), the latter being used for sound-bending. Interface (12) includes input and output connectors (44, 48, 52, 50, 54 and 62) and associated adaptor circuits (46, 60, 58, 56 and 64) for communication with a microprocessor (40). Read only memories (42 and 43) containing factory and user pre-set data are accessed by the microprocessor (40). In one mode of operation, PC signals generated by the keyboard's keypad are converted into MIDI signals corresponding to the notes of a selectable musical scale such that the root note of the scale is elicited by the same keypad key.
3 Collapsible/folding mini USB/MIDI keyboard controller US10205819 2002-07-26 US20030019346A1 2003-01-30 Kirk Jeffrey

11 UNIVERSAL ELECTRONIC MUSICAL INSTRUMENT PCT/US1989005703 1989-12-27 WO1990007771A1 1990-07-12 HOTZ INSTRUMENTS TECHNOLOGY, INC.; HOTZ, Jimmy, C.
A MIDI musical instrument (10) includes a set of force sensitive transducers (12), arranged as a keyboard. The keyboard is electronically scanned and the identity of the key or keys being depressed, along with information relating to the velocity of that key depression, are stored. Stored tables in memory (28) convert that information to MIDI standard information relating to pitch and velocity for MIDI compatible tone generators or to MIDI messages for a MIDI event. The tables may be standard tables employing chord voicing information, individual note information, or other information relating to the MIDI events to be implemented. The tables switch in real time at a speed sufficient to seem transparent to the user, thus allowing dynamic reconfiguration of the keyboard during the performance of a musical composition. In a preferred embodiment, the tables are arranged such that during the interval of time in which a particular chord is being played, the depression of any key (202-340) will result in the generation of a ''correct'' chord or a ''correct'' note in a scale which is compatible with that chord. The keyboard may be operated at 100 percent efficiency because the keys may be defined such that they are all utilizable at any time during the performance of the musical composition.

13 SYSTEM TO ENABLE THE USE OF WHITE KEYS OF MUSICAL KEYBOARDS FOR SCALES PCT/SG2004/000136 2004-05-18 WO2004104983A1 2004-12-02 SIM, Wong, Hoo; LIM, Kok, Liang; SEOW, Phoei, Min, Paul

A method for the use of the white keys of a musical keyboard such as a MIDI keyboard for the playing a selected scale whereby all while keys of the keyboard are remapped to the selected scale such that adjacent keys of the keyboard can be used to play adjacent notes of the selected scale. There is also disclosed a method for providing a functional aspect to at least one black key of a musical keyboard such as a MIDI keyboard, wherein upon a key of the keyboard being pressed, a first check is conducted to determine if a user has activated the selected scale setting; and if the selected scale function has been activated, a second check is conducted to determine if the key is a black key or a white key. If the key is a black key a second lookup table is checked based on a MIDI message for the black key to determine a corresponding functional aspect corresponding to the black key.

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic keyboard instrument capable of automatically driving keyboards according to streaming playback while performing the streaming playback of music content. <P>SOLUTION: The electronic keyboard instrument 100 automatically drives the keyboards 1 by playing back MIDI data according to the streaming playback of audio/video data and supplying an obtained node event to a key drive circuit 3. Then, when a predetermined amount of the audio/video data is accumulated, the streaming playback of the audio/video data is started, and playback of the MIDI data is simultaneously started. Furthermore, in consideration of time difference (for example, about 50-100 msec) to be taken until key depression or key release of a key to be driven is completed after the node event obtained by the playback of the MIDI data is supplied to the key drive circuit 3, the streaming playback of the audio/video data is started after waiting for the time difference after starting the playback of the MIDI data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
