摘要	A magnetic recording system, such as an audio frequency magnetic tape recorder, comprises a pulse width modulator 8-15 which receives the input signal and a magnetic recording transducer 51 which receives the pulse width modulated signal. Thus, the full dynamic range of the recording medium can be utilized to minimise noise and the distortion induced by the transfer characteristic is substantially eliminated, particularly at high signal levels. The modulator is a Schmitt oscillator with amplitude limited by zener diode 15. The oscillator frequency reduces to accommodate lengthening pulse widths of negative polarity without pulse widths being inconveniently short for positive polarity signals.
