The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine which is provided with the following components: an exhaust pipe, an exhaust turbocharger which is provided in the exhaust pipe, and a catalytic converter which is similarly provided in the exhaust pipe. More importantly, the exhaust turbocharger and the catalytic converter are surrounded by a heat-insulated enclosing housing. Furthermore the exhaust turbocharger and the catalytic converter are connected with a coolant loop or lubricant loop of the internal combustion engine through heat transfer. Therefore an operation temperature of the internal combustion engine and/or the catalytic converter can be obtained more quickly, and therefore discharge and consumption of harmful matter can be reduced.
