    • A busbar assembly 300A, 300C, for electrically connecting a set of cylindrical cells (100, Figure 1A-C) in a battery module (500, Figure 5), comprises a first component, comprising a first terminal collection plate 308A, 308C; and a second component, comprising a second terminal collection plate 314A, 314C. An insulating layer 310A, 310C is disposed between the first and second terminal connection plates. The first terminal plate is located in a first plane and the second terminal collection plate is located in a second plane. The second plane is offset from the first plane in a direction normal to the first plane. A plurality of terminal connection tabs (306T 312T, Figure 3) may be connected to the collection plates and the first terminal collection plate may comprise at least one void space which allows at least some of the second terminal connection tabs to connect to terminals of the cells. The connection tabs may be provided on a metallic sheet connected to the connection plates. The first and second components may be connected to the insulating layer by electrically insulating fixings passing through aligned holes (306H 308H 310H 312H 314H, Figure 3) in the components and insulating layer.

    • A battery module 300 comprises a busbar assembly 304 and a plurality of cylindrical cells 200, each of the cells comprising a first end surface, with a first terminal located in a substantially central region and at least a part of a second terminal located in a peripheral region of the first end surface. Each of the cells is arranged to circumferentially abut at least two other cells and the cells are arranged within the battery module such that the first end surfaces of all cells are substantially coplanar. The busbar assembly is located proximate to the first end surfaces of the cells and comprises a first component 314 electrically connected to the first central terminals via a plurality of first terminal connection tabs 312T and a second component 308 electrically connected to the second peripheral terminals via a plurality of second terminal connection tabs 306T, with at least some of the second terminal connection tabs being electrically connected to the second terminal of at least two of the cylindrical cells. Preferably, the tabs are provided on respective thin metallic sheets connected to positive and negative current collection plates, which may comprise fingers, separated by an insulating member 310.

The plurality of current collecting foils include a first current collecting foil and a second current collecting foil that are adjacent to each other at an interval in a direction parallel to the first surface. The first current collecting foil includes a first lead part in a tongue shape that extends from an edge, is inserted into a hole of the insulating substrate, and is electrically connected to a positive electrode of a battery, and the second current collecting foil includes a second lead part in a tongue shape that extends from the edge, is inserted into the hole of the insulating substrate, and is electrically connected to a negative electrode of the battery.
