    • 510,416. Clip fastenings. ANDREWS, W. A. Nov. 24, 1938, No. 34245. [Class 44] [Also in Group XIV] A stair-carpet fastener comprises a pair of springy sheet-metal strips 6, 7 forming a rightangled member fitting in the angle between the tread and riser, each strip having its free edge 8, 9 bent back towards the body of the strip so that when a fold of a stair carpet 10 is inserted between the free edges the bent parts 8, 9 are deflected inwardly each at an angle of less than 45 degrees with the body portion of the strip, whereby the edges grip the fold of the ,carpet with a wedging action which is increased by an outward pull on the carpet. As shown the fastener is bent up from a single strip and keyhole slots 11 at the bend 5 take over screws 12 inserted in the stairs. Portions 18 are cut away opposite the keyhole slots to permit a screwdriver to be inserted to tighten the screws 12.

    • 391,879. Kinematograph apparatus. ANDREWS, A. A., 21, Gordon Road, Southend-on- Sea. Nov. 11, 1931, No. 31234. [Class 97 (i).] In apparatus capable of use as a camera or projector, the film is intermittently fed by a claw member pivoted eccentrically on a rotatable disc, the claw member being provided with a tail end sliding in a sleeve on a pivoted block carrying a pivoted registering or film-retaining pin ; the apparatus may be provided with a sliding shutter rigidly carrying a pin engaging a sleeve pivoted eccentrically on a driving disc. As shown, discs 13, 17 are rotated by a handle 39 through gears 15, 14, 16, the disc 13 being provided with a pivoted sleeve 12 engaging a pin 11 projecting from a shutter 9 reciprocating in guides 10, and the disc 17 being provided with a pivoted double pronged claw 18 having a tail 19 slidably engaging a sleeve 20 formed on a block pivoted at 21 and pivotally carrying a film-retaining pin 23. The film 31 passes from a spool 32, over a post 33 to a gate aperture 8 in a plate 6, and thence between the plate 6 and a presser plate 28, which is pivoted on a pin 27 and is pressed by a spring 30, to a take-up spool 34 driven by a belt 37 from a pulley 38. A lens-aperture plate 40 having a hole 40a and a slot 40b for alternative use is slidable by means of a knob on a rod 41. A lamp holder &c. 44 may be carried, when the apparatus is used for projection, by apertured members 42, 43, a sliding shutter 45 being provided to cover the aperture in the member 42 when the apparatus is used as a camera.
