摘要： A hinge assembly (20) pivotally couples adjacent panels (14) together in an overhead sectional door (10). The panels (14) include stiles (38) between each lateral end of the panel (14) to which the hinge assemblies are attached. The hinge assembly (20) Includes an upper hinge leaf (70) on an upper panel with a pair of spaced generally parallel flanges (90) which span the juncture between the upper and lower panels. 摘要： An extension spring overhead door system (10) in which the spring (22) may be quickly and easily placed in tension with the door (21) in a closed position. A spring tensioning device (30, 140) is provided which eliminates the need for multiple installers to lift the full weight of the door (21) and then clamp or otherwise prop the door (21) in an open position. An extension spring containment tube (84) is also provided which surrounds the entire periphery of the spring (22) to fully contain the entire length of the extension spring (22). A second embodiment of the spring tensioning device (140) allows mounting of device (140) on either side of the door (21) while retaining easy access.

摘要： A garage door frame (18) has a pair of vertical frame members (22) attached to each lateral end of a horizontal frame member (20). The door frame components can be transported to the construction or job site and assembled there to avoid the expense of welding at the manufacturer and to better accommodate job site specification and design changes. Alternatively, the components can be pre-assembled at the factory. Each vertical frame member (22) is joined to the horizontal frame member (20) with a unique connector (46) which slidably inserts within the horizontal frame member (20) and between side walls of a U-shaped portion (44) of the vertical frame member (22). A combination of interlocking ribs (42) and grooves (56, 58) formed in the frame members secures them together. First and second preferred embodiments of the invention are adapted for use with extension spring garage doors and torsion spring garage doors, respectively.

摘要： A high-speed sectional overhead door (10) covers a door opening (12) with panels (16) stacked in a single plane and lifted from the bottom-most panel (16). As panels (16) are lifted, each rolls in its own individual track (20). As the panels (16) move into the head section (28), they run through curved transition tracks (26) and are nested there. The stored panels (16) stacked horizontally one atop another with the door (10) open. This design utilizes a dedicated panel-track pairing as well as a unique hook/cam device (68, 66) which allows for the upper panel (16) to be both locked in the closed position and pushed away for separation and storage in the open position. The design also provides a sectional door (10) with low headroom clearance, high speed closing/opening and a multitude of panel heights without hinges joining the adjacent panels (16).

The connecting bars (32) are each formed of a length substantially less than the overall length of the door panel (12a-12d) but slightly longer than the length of an individual subpanel (14a-14d). All components of the door (10) may be stored and transported in relatively small packages or cartons (100), yet may be assembled into a structurally rigid, wind resistant sectional door (10).

The counterbalancing mechanism (30) includes a worm drive ring-shaped gear winding mechanism (38) for setting the appropriate torque or number of winds in the spring (32). A counting mechanism (140) is provided to indicate to the installer the number of winds being given to the spring (32). Means are also provided for accommodating spring growth and contraction during winding and unwinding using the winding mechanism (38) and during normal raising and lowering of the door (12). A spring clip gear retainer (82) is disclosed for preventing rotation or creep of the worm drive gear (70) and spur gear (56) during normal raising and lowering of the door (12). A second embodiment is disclosed allowing more universal interchangeability of components between the left and right sides of the door system (200), easy snap-in assembly, and including a telescoping spring cover (252). Each embodiment includes a spring winding counter (140).
