Fibre cleaning apparatus which may be adapted for use in carding engines or fibre opening machines wherein there is a rotatable fibrecleaning cylinder has two partitions beneath and extending the full width of the cylinder to form a trash removal zone open at the bottom and, immediately following the partitions in'the direction of rotation of the cylinder, is also mounted an arcuate cover. As applied to a carding engine, Fig. 2, adjustable partitions 14, 15 are mounted beneath the licker-in 44 and form two sides of a channel open to atmosphere at the bottom. Behind the partition 14 there is adjustably secured a perforated plate 50 beneath which a suction duct may be arranged. This plate 50 may be replaced by a series of spaced bars. Another embodiment (Fig. 7 not shown), discloses three partitions. Fibre cleaning apparatus such as described in Specifications 796,568, 846,596, 849,548 and U.S.A. Specification 2,825,097 are modified by replacing grid bars beneath cleaning cylinders by partitions and arcuate covers which may be perforated or solid. Although the surfaces of the partitions are preferably smooth, they may be corrugated, curved and/or perforated. The partition edges may be flanged, square, scalloped, or shaped in any other way.

Sand, distributing on wheel tracks. -A sanding device for the wheel tracks of vehicles comprises a container from which lead tubes to the wheels, means for controlling the flow of sand from the container, and a sand box for carrying the weight of the sand, mounted in the container, with its bottom spaced above the means for controlling the flow of sand and perforated to feed sand into the space above the controlling means. In the container 10 is mounted the removable sand-box 31 perforated with clusters of holes 32 through which the sand passes into the space 36 in which the valve 19 slides. Tubes 16, 17 lead from the bottom of the sand container to the back and front of each wheel respectively, and the ports in the valve are arranged to uncover all the tubes leading to the front of the wheels or all the tubes leading to the back of the wheels according to the direction in which the hand lever 22 is moved. The sand is fed into the sand box by means of the cover 34 screwed into the side of the container
